(15,645 posts)keep themselves employed and now have no place to go that doesnt involve self-sacrifice which most of them are incapable of; thats what drove them to propagate an ignorant, hatred, mentally unbalanced base in the first place a priority on self over virtually anything else, including potentially catastrophic damage to our country and possibly the globe. These people are the definition of evil.

WASHINGTON Jim Mattis, the four-star Marine general turned defense secretary, will retire at the end of February, President Trump said on Thursday.
Mr. Mattis departure comes a day after the president announced his decision to withdraw 2,000 American troops from Syria over the objections of senior military officials.
His departure leaves the Trump administration without one of the few officials viewed as standing between a mercurial president and global tumult.

It's hard to overstate the magnitude of Mattis's resignation. The world viewed him as the rock. As crazy as things appeared to be in the Oval, allies took comfort in the fact that Mattis was in charge at the Pentagon. He will be gone Feb. 28.

(7,153 posts)Washington (CNN) Defense Secretary James Mattis resigned Thursday on the heels of President Donald Trump's plans to withdraw troops from Syria, citing irreconcilable policy differences.
"Because you have the right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position," Mattis wrote in his letter.
He also pointedly stated that the strength of the US depends in part on the strength of its alliances around the globe, many of which have become notably frayed under Trump.
"One core belief I have always held is that our strength as a nation is inextricably linked to the strength of our unique and comprehensive system of alliances and partnerships. While the US remains the indispensable nation in the free world, we cannot protect our interests or serve that role effectively without maintaining strong alliances and showing respect to those allies," he added.

(15,645 posts)this illegal Presidency. Things are frankly becoming quite scary. Mueller, you better hurry up. Our nation and the world are clearly at risk; not just our government and economic systems, but conceivably millions upon millions of human lives.

In a letter addressed to Trump, Mattis said that because you have a right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on a number of subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position.
In his letter, Mattis cited the importance of US alliances, particularly NATO, and said the US must stand resolute and unambiguous in the face of authoritarian countries such as China and Russia.
Mattis resignation comes on the heels of Trumps controversial plan to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria.
The presidents decision, announced on Wednesday, will reportedly take more than 2,000 U.S. servicemembers out of the country, ending the ground strategy against the Islamic State. Trump said in a tweet Wednesday morning that we have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency.

(4,033 posts)but instead it was released by the Pentagon. My belief and seemingly by most of the commentators on MSNBC and CNN is that tRump's unilateral announcement that we were pulling our troops out of Syria and also info leaking out of the White House that tRump is seriously pulling troops out of Afghanistan as well, caused Mattis' resignation because tRump crossed his personal red line and he could not, in good conscience, continue as SecDef.
Rachel just said '...the Secretary of Defense resigning'.
