Republicans ‘Break Up’ With Obama In New Ad

Last edited Thu Sep 6, 2012, 01:31 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: TPM

The Republican National Committee is out with a new ad this morning featuring a woman giving President Obama the "it's not me, it's you" treatment at a dinner table.

"Listen, this just isn't working," says the woman. "It's been four years, you've changed."

"You're always out with Hollywood celebrities," she goes on. "You think I didn't see you with Sarah Jessica Parker and George Clooney?

The RNC did not immediately have any details on TV ad buys, but told TPM that it is being worked into rotation.

Video at the link.

This is an incredibly stupid ad, but I'd guess one of their advertising "geniuses" thought it would appeal to single women, a demographic that gives the President a huge lead.

What it really suggests is that people who'd vote for Romney are not only stupid enough to talk to empty chairs, but they'll also talk to cardboard cutouts (after an imaginary romance with one).

Editing to add some more info about the woman in the ad who"s posing as a disappointed Obama supporter actually being a GOP staffer. (I posted about this first in reply #33 below.)

Disillusioned Obama Supporter In Romney Ad Is Actually GOP Staffer

Republicans debuted a new ad Thursday in which a frustrated former Obama supporter expresses her disappointment with the president. The only problem: The woman in the video is actually an RNC staffer.

The new ad features Republican National Committee Director of Hispanic Outreach Bettina Inclan, who in the ad purports to be an average woman voter who supported Obama in 2008. She describes her disillusionment with the president in the ad as a romantic relationship gone awry.

-snip-

The RNC says its ad, which first appeared on television Thursday is not dishonest.

-snip-

Inclan began her current RNC post in January 2012, and has worked in Republican politics since well before Obama’s 2008 election. She did Hispanic outreach for Rick Scott’s 2010 Florida gubernatorial race worked on Capitol Hill for Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI) and as national executive director of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly.

-snip-

Yes, it is dishonest. And it completely destroys whatever credibility she had as the RNC's Director of Hispanic Outreach.

Something about why vote for a movie star when you can vote for experience. They kept showing the crowds in the European speeches - can't remember exactly but it was the same idea. Guess they forgot how well that worked out.

That's their problem in a nutshell. They don't know how to treat us as rational adults. As equals. In their minds, if you are poor or struggling it automatically means you are stupid or incapable of making an informed decision.

The ad directs viewers to breakupwithobama.com

You know, when they do that sort of thing, they should register variants like:

breakINGupwithobama.com, because "breaking up" is something of a natural phrase.

Oh well.

It's just plain insulting to women.

It implies (or explicityly states) that the reason women voted for Obama was based in silly emotion, not a hard headed analysis of who would best represent my interests and values.

And now, because of some surface bullshit, I'm going to change my mind? "So like a woman!"

Assholes.

That has got to be the most asinine ad of this election cycle, so far. How much do these ads cost?

Every time I see the wasted money, I think of the hungry children who could use those dollars. I think this type of election nonsense has got to come to an end.

...isn't this ad going to give men flashbacks to that horrible moment their ex-girlfriend said this to them and make them sympathize with Obama? Maybe even say, "I got your back, brother! She's not worth cryin' over...."?

Just sayin', I wouldn't run an add that could have voters flashing back to a bad moment and getting angry at the dumper rather than siding with her.

I don't understand why any sensible woman would vote for Romney/Ryan. Stockholm Syndrome? Unquestioning party loyalty? Rank stupidity? All of the above?

according to a paragraph in this article (I posted the news about the Ohio TV ads in a different topic here):

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-romney-obama-ohio-ads-20120906,0,4157574.story

On Thursday, the Republican National Committee released an ad, aired on NBC’s “Today” show, showing the party’s director of Hispanic outreach, Bettina Inclan, breaking up with an imaginary Obama seated across from her at an elegant dinner table. “You’re just not the person I thought you were,” she says.

Asked in an email where and when the ad would run, the party’s communications director, Sean Spicer, had no immediate comment.

The ad will really help her credibility with Latinos.

This and the cuts to the Arts Romney plans should rile up Hollywood. There are several in Hollywood doing great things for humanitarian aide. Celebrities have the advantage of the stage to fight back. The Romney/Ryan team May wish they didn't go down that road

Excuse me, Republicans. We know that many of the women that you encounter want their bodies controlled by the likes of you and Todd Akin. They don't have enough integrity or brain power to demand equal pay for equal work. They will happily relinquish control of their health and their reproductive rights to men who have a bizarre need to control women. But that's not the majority of the country.

We used our brains -- not emotion --when we voted for Obama. To equate Obama with a "boyfriend" and female voters as parasol-twirling fools who dot their i's with hearts and vote for candidates based on fleeting, syrupy emotions is sexist and demeaning to all women.

But then again, is anyone surprised that the Republicans view women like this?
