San Diego Union-Tribune staff, others evacuate after suspicious package spotted

Source: San Diego Union-Tribune

he San Diego Union-Tribune and other businesses were evacuated Wednesday morning after a stack of suspicious looking packages was spotted in front of the building they all share in downtown San Diego, police said.

The discovery comes the same day the Secret Service intercepted a series of suspicious packages containing potential explosives that were sent to Hillary Clinton and President Obama. CNN also reported a suspicious package was sent to its building in Manhattan.

A police lieutenant reported the boxes, which were situated on top of a trash can in front of the 600 B Street building about 8:15 a.m., San Diego police Officer Billy Hernandez said.

Reporters at the paper said they were told by Jeff Light, the editor-in-chief, about 8:35 a.m. that police were asking them to evacuate.

Soros, Clinton, Obama, CNN, Wasserman Schultz, and now the Union-Tribune. I'm sensing a pattern here...

Actually, the Union-Tribune is now a center-left paper. New owner is focused on real Journalism. haele Oct 2018 #7

I submit that’s the REAL story here. The Union is a right-wing rag not likely to be targeted by someone aiming at CNN or Democratic politicians. The staff of a prominent Democratic Senator widely considered to be a future presidential candidate? That’s another story.

They fact check, prominently publish corrections and try very hard not to publish "bothsidesisms" with their news. Opinions, maybe - and only if the opinions are based on some actual fact or concept and not a forwarded spewing of Alec Jones or Faux news.
Lots of back county and evilangelicals are p.o'ed at the newspaper because it no longer is a right wing-nut/developer's echo chamber.

So, yes - the UT is now a right wing target.

This is looking to be a test run. Buckle your seatbelts and gird your loins.

But this was a false alarm, no bomb in the package at the building with the UT and Senator Harris' offices.

The discovery quickly prompted the closure of several busy blocks. But about an hour later, with aid from an X-ray, police determined the packages were filled with everyday items.

San Diego police Lt. Kevin Wadhams said the unaddressed boxes contained: one shoe, two children’s books, one football, one empty bag of chips and one hat. A red air pump was located behind the packages.

It was right wing BS for years. I hear they have changed but I still won't go near it. Whenever I am offered free ones at my store I turn them down. I felt like I prostituted myself when I got free copies for my 6th graders to use in my classroom (Newspapers for Education). They also layed off a friend since she was a female (really).
