Diamond and Silk say under oath they weren't paid by Trump campaign; FEC filings say otherwise
Source: The Hill
The conservative social media personalities known as Diamond and Silk claimed under oath at a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Thursday that they were never paid for their consulting work by President Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.
Federal campaign finance filings show otherwise.
"We have never been paid by the Trump campaign," Lynette Hardaway, who goes by Diamond, told Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas).
Filings with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) show that the campaign paid the duo $1,275 on November 22, 2016 for "field consulting."

Trump supporters should figure out that they can't pull off blatant lying as well as Trump can.

That should be easy enough to clear up.
Although, if they were receiving some "other" payment through Michael Cohen...

I'm not directly familiar with categories on that reporting form, but that would have been up to whomever recorded the expense, not them.
If you took me to lunch, and we chatted about your legal problems, and you reimburse me for a hamburger, then if I was asked if you ever paid me for legal services, I'd probably say something similar, and would not be too terribly impressed with "aha! But he paid you for a hamburger!" Meh.
That they do what they do with such enthusiasm suggests that they really got paid through some other channel, since that's how Trumponomics seems to work. Who knows, maybe Michael Cohen had to mortgage his vacation home too!

(67,782 posts)There aren't specific categories, there is a text box where the purpose of the expense is entered.
I just downloaded the trump expenditure file. The one in question is called "field consulting", as are hundreds of other expenditures. There are also hundreds of expenditures that are called "travel expense reimbursement". So this isn't a case of them not knowing that category existed.
If someone like me can find this, you know the experts at the FEC are aware of this too.

(5,995 posts)Most consultants charge travel, per diem, and a fee. So whatever it is above the travel expenses would be an unreported Payment-in-Kind donation.

Trump campaign filings call it "field consulting," so they accusing their dearly loved Trump of filing falsified FEC reports? Okay then.
And according to a tweet from Shaun King, they also got paid (a lot more) by a well known white supremacist. Shocker.

(4,742 posts)It is technically a payment. Travel expenses are typically not taxable income. They may have done that to show that they were't paid as income but instead travel. But if travel costs $300 and you give them $1,200 then it gets squishy.

I have to do something about that. I wish I could have all 37 seconds of my life back, believe me!
