THE JILL STEIN campaign is refusing to comply fully with a Senate intelligence committee request for documents and other correspondence, made as part of the committees probe into Russian activities in the 2016 election, according to a letter to be delivered Thursday to the panel by an attorney for the campaign.
The Green Party campaign will agree to turn over some documents, but raised constitutional objections to the breadth of the inquiry, which was first made in November 2017, arguing that elements of it infringe on basic political rights enshrined in the First Amendment.
In the letter responding to committee chair Richard Burr, R-N.C., and ranking member Mark Warner, D-Va., Steins campaign has now said it will refuse some of the requests, calling them so overbroad in reach as to demand constitutionally protected materials.
Mara Verheyden-Hilliard, of the Washington-based Partnership for Civil Justice Fund, authored the letter and responded to each of the six requests from the committee, saying the campaign would comply with some and not others.

(4 posts)A party that represents itself as ideologically pure should be completely transparent - to the Senate and to us average citizens. Why would Jill Stein go to great expense to go to a party in Russia celebrating a propaganda organ of one of the most repressive, oligarchic, authoritarian right-wing regimes on Earth. A party that has unwittingly (?) given us George Bush and Donald Trump.

(4,492 posts)They'd run candidates for local office and state leg races. They don't.
They don't even do what other minor lefty parties (WFP, WEP) in NY do and cross endorse Democrats.

(5,995 posts)will wait to hear what happens, maybe in the courts.
Requests for info usually are as broad as possible to be sure they don't overlook possible threads of info and those being looked at will always cry foul and overreach.
What makes it clear is which items end up in court and the findings.
Even if there is guilt, they have Constitutional protections.

Actually, I don't know what she's hiding, but It's good that someone is still looking into all facets of the dirty election.
