Senate Republicans are hoping that President Trumps pick to head the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) withdraws his name and spares them a messy confirmation fight.
While some GOP lawmakers are characterizing the allegations of improper conduct against Navy Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson as cheap shots, they have serious concerns about his lack of management experience.
Hes totally unqualified, said one Republican senator who expressed disbelief that Trump picked his personal physician, who now oversees a staff of 70, to head the federal governments second-largest agency.

Republican senators say they arent eager to spill blood defending a nominee against a barrage of allegations of unprofessional conduct when they already have serious questions about his ability to manage a vast and complicated federal bureaucracy.

(409 posts)For Senate Republicans, the question of the day is not if, but when, President Donald Trump pulls the plug on Ronny Jackson.
GOP support for the Veterans Affairs nominee has cratered in the face of allegations of misconduct as White House physician. Jackson already faced serious doubts over his lack of management experience. At this point, it would take a miraculous comeback by Jackson to survive at least two more weeks of scrutiny and growing discomfort among Republican senators over his nomination. [...]
But the GOP concern goes even deeper. Three Republican senators, granted anonymity, said they want the White House to withdraw the nomination immediately, calling it a self-inflicted wound that will only get worse with time.

(11,885 posts)...shows contempt for every vet in this country and service member by nominating such a reckless, irresponsible, and corrupt individual, and why is he still in the White House as a doctor? First trump tried to blame the Democrats for his incompetence, again. The only reason he nominated him was because he was a willing liar for him, and easily manipulated to do as he says for him. Has done this with all his cabinet members also.

(59,510 posts)What the right wing wants is to privatize the VA. I suapect that the next nominee will be competent, but extremedy right wing.
The Democrats have to teject the current nominee because he is not qualified. I wish that had happened without all these terrible personal charges.
I just hope thus does not make us less willing to reject a very rw nominee. I also hope this does not reflect badly on Obama.
