Romney forced into GOP primary for Utah Senate nomination (updated)

Last edited Sat Apr 21, 2018, 11:03 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: The Hill

Former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney failed to secure the Utah Republican Party's nomination for Senate on Saturday, triggering a June primary.

In the final round of voting at the party's convention, state Rep. Mike Kennedy (R) won 50.88 percent of the vote, with Romney following with 49.12 percent.

Because neither candidate secured 60 percent, the two will head to a June statewide Republican primary.

Romney and Kennedy are running to succeed retiring Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).

The original headline,Romney finishes second in Utah GOP Senate primary, was confusing at best. The headline has since been corrected. I've updated the post with the updated headline & other updates.

This means Romney will have to run in a primary to win the nomination.

Heres a Boston Globe story on it

Whoa...what a blow to him. Not only can he not make President. He can't even get elected Senator (which I assume he was going to use as a stepping stone to the Presidency, although it's hard for Senators to get elected President).

Why does he want to be in politics, anyway? He's got all his businesses, he's immensely wealthy. What does he need the headache for? Trying to start a family dynasty thing like the Bushes?

Queen Anne was in poor health, and that is why he left politics to begin with? Wasn't she supposed to have M.S.? That was the reason given for her prancing horses, therapy for her. Queen Anne will be upset with this, she thinks she BELONGS in the WH, given that she is so special and all. Hey, Anne, try putting out nude photos of yourself. The gop welcomes that!

Me, I don't know. He's a corporate shill, though. He's a walking corporation.

The one good thing about Romney, though, is that he recognizes Trump for what he is. Romney, a successful billionaire, said that Trump is a terrible businessman. Not to the mention the lies and immorality.

So while Romney is kissing Trump's toes right now, he's on record as calling out Trump.

The GOP delegates are so freaking extreme that if you're not right of Attila the Hun, you're too liberal. These are the same people who voted out Bob Bennett because he wasn't conservative enough.

They cannot even tolerate an empty suit who you know will rarely dissent from Cheeto. Remember they just had to have Mike Lee because Bob Bennett just wasn’t enough of a right wing asshole for them.
