"From April 21, North Korea will stop nuclear tests and launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles," the Korean Central News Agency said.
Mr Kim's decision comes a week before he is due to meet his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in.
North Korea has defied international sanctions over its weapons programme.
In November, it said it had successfully tested a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile that could reach the whole of the continental United States.

(11,885 posts)If Kim continues with weapons production, not testing , that isn't so good, and they've lied before about this. NK I believe has done this before then cheated anyway, so HE doesn't have to test since they think they have everything already tested and ready to shift into production. I would love it if everything IS stopped, but I doubt it will be. More PR and self promotion than anything.

(40,416 posts)And as to their nuclear claims, I doubt those, too.
I think that their initiator design is faulty. That's why all their early so-called nuke tests were well below nuclear yield. I also highly suspect that those same troubles resulted in them building a rather much larger device. When it was tested with a somewhat better initiator, it ran away and utterly destroyed their underground test site. Some DPRK nuclear scientist got their cross-section calculations rather tragically wrong.
They have no infrastructure left to continue their program. That's why the are quitting. They have no choice but to quit.

(40,416 posts)Certainly not a reliable or accurate one.
And even if they DO have a nuclear bomb, it most definitely has not been weaponized, let alone shrunk to the size of a missile deliverable one. When one only tests them by burying them, they don't have to be small. That's different for one as a missile payload.
DPRK is giving up on nothing with this concession because they have neither a weaponized nuclear bomb (if they have one at all) nor a reliable delivery system.

Korean news agency say they have 'recently reconfirmed' the lair of one of the unicorns ridden by the ancient King Tongmyong
..in what appears to be a genuine world exclusive, the inimitable Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) has now broken the incredible news that archaeologists in Pyongyang have discovered a unicorn's lair.
Or rather, the report says that they have "recently reconfirmed" the lair of one of the unicorns ridden by the ancient Korean King Tongmyong, founder of a kingdom which ruled parts of China and the Korean peninsula from the the 3rd century BC to 7th century AD.
The KCNA goes on to state that the location happens to be 200 metres from a temple in the North Korean capital, adding: "A rectangular rock carved with words "Unicorn Lair" stands in front of the lair."

(40,416 posts)Allegedly, one. ONE!!!
That is what I would call a unicorn.
In other words, they have, at best, a dodgy nuclear weapon, and an alleged ICBM that has been tested one time.
I'll stick with my assessment.
