Giuliani says he is joining Trump's legal team to 'negotiate an end' to Mueller probe

Former New York mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, a combative former prosecutor and longtime ally of President Trump, told The Washington Post on Thursday that he has joined the presidents legal team dealing with the ongoing special counsel probe.
Im doing it because I hope we can negotiate an end to this for the good of the country and because I have high regard for the president and for Bob Mueller, Giuliani said in an interview.
Giuliani, who joins a legal team that has struggled to recruit new members to its ranks, said he has been speaking with Trump for weeks about joining the group of legal advisers. He said he would work alongside Trumps current attorneys, Jay Sekulow and Ty Cobb, who focus on the federal investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. He also said he will soon take a leave from his law firm, Greenberg Traurig.
Giuliani said he formalized his decision in recent days, including over dinner last week at Trumps Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

(5,955 posts)...rat Trump out in exchange for not being prosecuted himself. Since Cohen probably had Giuliani on tape, as an accessory to obstruction of justice, advising Trump to fire Comey as a way to stop the Russia investigation.

(26,060 posts)with the plea he made with Sammy Gravano. Guiliani did bring down Paul Castellano who was also a "boss" of the Gambino crime family. The mob took a HUGE hit with those cases but Gotti was brought down by Mueller.

One thing Rudy was good for was going after white collar criminals AND making them do the perp walk. Michael Milkin, Ivan Boesky.
For anyone who wants to read about Guiliani's time as a prosecutor of the mob - this is a good place to look

(8,709 posts)I don't trust him in doing what has to be and should be done about Trump. I remember him during the Bush years. Mueller is not a independent guy. To me it seems that he toes the line of your typical far-right republican. I'm skeptical of him. Republicans like to let traitors go. Remember Fitzgerald letting traitors go.

(11,885 posts)This was done to use Giuliani to threaten Mueller from trump with, and maybe offer him something to stop the investigation, not negotiate anything. He using him for PR also. trump and giuliani are very similar in many ways.

(15,292 posts)Josh Marshall put up an edblog post about Guiliani and his appearance on Fox News predicting there would be an "Oct surprise" for Clinton, which turned out to be the emails on Abedin's laptop. Last night on Maddow's show, she asked Comey about that. He said he ordered an investigation of how that info leaked to Guiliani, but was fired before the investigation was complete. Marshall's reporting that the investigation is wrapping up and the finding may implicate the NY FBI office's agents in leaking to Guiliani.
