Hawley, McCaskill in tight poll match, but Hawley relatively unknown to many Missourians

Source: St Louis Post Dispatch

While McCaskill is almost universally known to Missourians, 17 percent said they were not familiar with Hawley.

His 33-23 favorable-vs.-unfavorable ratio is better than McCaskill’s at the moment, according to the poll, meaning that a key to a potential matchup between the two politicians will be how that 17 percent views him by the Nov. 6 election.

The poll said that while Trump’s favorable ratings in Missouri are better than they are in the country as a whole, “there clearly has been an erosion of his support in the state since his resounding win there.

“He may not be drag, but he may not provide as big a boost for Hawley as expected a year ago,” the pollsters went on. “And if the Democratic ‘enthusiasm gap’ that has been demonstrated in recent special elections across the country can sustain itself and drive up party turnout, Trump may be a net zero factor. The playing field would be level as it was in many of the close Missouri Senate races over the past 20 years.

channels are commercials on how Claire doesn't support working families because she voted against the tax bill. Nothing could be further from the truth but I'd like to at least see one positive ad.

Perhaps to help suppress GOP turnout despite Hawley being young and up-and-coming (and purportedly encouraging Greitens to resign)? But with the Drumpf endorsement (and we know what happens with that), maybe that will help rile up Democrats even more.

This will really be a matter of GOTV.
