Air Force officer charged over solicitation of graphic photos

Source: The Hill

BY JOSH DELK - 04/06/18 10:50 PM EDT

An Air Force Officer once assigned to the president's security detail has been charged after allegedly encouraging a group of active military officers to send him graphic photos from different "cool" places around the world, according to The Associated Press.

Second Lt. Travis Burch could face a court martial in Texas on charges of conduct unbecoming an officer and gentleman after being arrested at an Air Force base there earlier in April as part of a case that investigators have been following for over a year, according to the AP.

The secret club known by the code name “Whiskey Delta Tango" consisted of 84 people, including 58 active military, who would reportedly take explicit photos of their genitals in different locations, and send them to him for a chance to win commemorative items.

Upon searching Burch's quarters, investigators found the hard-drive used to store the photos in a hollowed-out book, and items such as T-shirts and tokens emblazoned with a rooster given as rewards to club members who completed certain challenges.

And not sure I want to.

This guy would give out awards for pictures of genitalia in unusual locations?

it in his role as military officer so it violated their own standards.

from what i read it looks like he asked people to take these pics of themselves and send it to him. so they knew what they were doing and it was of themselves, not others.

10. He was on the POTUS detail from '14 to '16 and he's a 2Lt?

That doesn't ring true. A 2Lt should make 1st in no more than two years. Further, he's been commissioned for at least four to five years and still a 2nd? Got on the POTUS detail that early in a career?

A court martial for tacky silliness? What about those 58 active duty types? Who are they and are they under the hammer?

I think it's time for the crap detector vis-a-vis this article.

And seems like a reprimand would be in order for something that was just juvenile and silly.
Maybe theres something else about this guy...

14. Unless harassment or coercion was involved, agree on the reprimand or at worst an Art 15.

and it seems like a not-completely-unpopular hobby given the regularity of people getting in trouble for graphic selfies in poorly-chosen places.

But even aside from the military conduct requirements, it sounds like they're exposing themselves in public? That's got to be a crime in some places at least...

doesn’t really seem criminal to me, unless there was coercion involved, which the awarding of prizes makes unlikely.
