The president said the influx of National Guard troops would be part of his administration’s efforts to ramp up security there.

It was the first time the administration had provided numbers on the scope of the new plan to dispatch National Guard personnel to the border, which Trump first disclosed this week.

Speaking with reporters on Air Force One after an event in West Virginia, Trump said the administration is “looking” at the cost of the effort. As for how long the troops will be there, Trump said, “We’ll probably keep them or a large portion of them” until a border wall is constructed.

That would come out to 1 guardsman about every 0.5 to 1.0 miles. Yeah - can't see how anyone would be able to slip through with that overwhelming density.

every war i remember there has always been national gaurds rather than regular army. now this , btw he dosent seem to care about deficits as long as its in the social programs

Just some vague "keep 'em immigrants out" type of thing. No specific issue that as become demonstrably more problematic. Something that can be used to gauge the progress or to work toward finding more permanent solutions that isn't some ridiculously expensive wall that would have little impact.


I would think if their interest was solely in reducing the amount of smuggling and illegal immigration, then they would focus on building a network of sensors along the border and increasing the number of border patrol agents to respond to the sensors. Even if they got their giant waste of a wall, they would have to do all that anyway. Otherwise people will just go under and over it. That alone should make it obvious this has less to do with what they claim, and more to do with companies getting sweet contracts and making his ignorant base feel satisfied.
