The Sinclair Broadcast Group has been buying up TV stations throughout the country, and though Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai has been under investigation for pushing rule changes that would benefit media companies with right-wing agendas, Sinclairs impact is being felt.
With Sinclair now owning more than 170 news outlets in the U.S., making it the largest owner in the country, the fact the companys executives are making local stations run pro-Donald Trump stances while bashing the media for delivering fake news is making much of the journalism community uncomfortable. Now, Deadspin has put together a supercut of the promo the anchors must read.
...snip...
Jared Kushner, the presidents son-in-law and adviser, said in 2016 that the Trump campaign had agreed to a deal with Sinclair where Sinclair would get more access to Trump in exchange for more Trump-centric coverage.
Sinclair is also in the process of buying Tribune Media, which would give Sinclair another 42 TV stations and would give it the ability to broadcast to least 70 percent of U.S. homes.

(32,853 posts)It looks like they're in at least 45 states, but not all the major markets. Many stations are small-to-medium markets, where the Sinclair station is the main or only source of news for that market. This is significant!

(15,292 posts)the stations should run a crawl saying they are required by ownership and do not necessarily reflect the view/opinions of the staff or on-air talent.

(14,178 posts)And if Democrats or anyone else tries to run a campaign against this kind of fake news brainwashing....good luck. Because all you'd hear is screaming from the right about freedom of speech rights being trampled. Its not a winnable position. And they know it.
This is why I fear that Trumpism will live on much longer than Trump himself. They have seen how fake news and opinion can work now. Fox News only increased viewership as they slowly changed from a conservative bent news network into a sensationalist extremist right wing lying machine.
After Trump leaves (please) the nation will already be primed for another, much smarter, smoother, version of Trump.
I think Democrats have been sitting in the slowly heated pot for decades now, ever since they went "meh.." about losing the Fairness Doctrine. For some reason they have allowed the whole countries media to be taken over by their enemies that will lie, cheat and steal to smear them into oblivion. Because there will be no one else to tell them otherwise.
