A White House olive branch: no plan to fire Mueller
Source: Axios
After a weekend at war with the Mueller investigation, the White House is extending an olive branch. Ty Cobb, the White House lawyer handling the probe, plans to issue this statement:
In response to media speculation and related questions being posed to the Administration, the White House yet again confirms that the President is not considering or discussing the firing of the Special Counsel, Robert Mueller.
Why it matters: The White House strategy had been to cooperate with Mueller. So this is an effort to turn down the temperature after a weekend of increasingly personal provocations aimed at the special counsel.

(53,978 posts)Rosenstein has said he won't fire him so trump has to fire Sessions, who recused himself and thus can't fire Mueller, appoint another Attorney General who can then fire Mueller.
Rosenstein will most likely resign then as he has said multiple times that Mueller is doing a good job and there is no reason to fire him for cause.
Even for trump that's a lot of bloodletting and more revolving door chaos for repugs not to at some point react.
And of course Democrats and the Media will be howling, and even more repugs will be putting in their retirement papers in order not to hit by the coming blue wave in November.

Have they checked Tangeranus' twitter account lately? 'cause he's not going along with that "strategy".

(5,273 posts)whereas John Dowd, Trump's other attorney stupidly stepped way over the line demanding Mueller probe be shut down
WH Counsel Don McGahn is undoubtedly having a tough time talking Trump down again about trying to fire Mueller

(14,501 posts)I would not put it past tRump to have Graham throw out some contrary bullshit to the media just so they can refute it, just to keep the pot stirred. His intent is to keep everyone's head spinning with chaos, including the press.

(70,464 posts)A taste of the last 48 hours:
John Dowd, a member of Trump's legal team, said Saturday that the investigation should be shut down "on the merits."
And Trump tweeted: "Why does the Mueller team have 13 hardened Democrats, some big Crooked Hillary supporters, and Zero Republicans? Another Dem recently added...does anyone think this is fair? And yet, there is NO COLLUSION!"

(5,815 posts)tRump will tweet whatever crosses his pea size brain. Every now and then someone tries to dial down the rhetoric tRump spews so it appears someone is in charge. But tRump has the uncanny capacity to undo everything his handlers try to do to control the chaos. It is like juggling hand grenades around there. Drop just one and oooppps.

(37,420 posts)letting the investigation continue. It's nice and slow and that time will provide him with many taxpayer funded golf outings. And who knows, maybe he'll make a deal with NKorea? And what's more, maybe Mueller will find something, but not enough to prosecute on.
Every day in power is a small victory.
Nah,..... he'll fuck it up.

(2,851 posts)Instead he will fire Sessions and appoint a replacement who he can easily control, who isn't recused from involvement in the investigation (maybe Devin Nunes). Then he will order that person to fire Mueller.
"Mr. Nunes concluded that we didn't need a special council, because his investigation found no collusion and I support him 100%."
Hopefully, the team has a good strategy in place for protecting the information they have compiled and getting it into hands that can use it in the case where that happens.

(1,743 posts)Absolutely every utterance out of the all-too-aptly named White House must be presumed
false in some preposterous dimemsion. No exceptions. Its all bullshit, no matter the disposition
of behaviors after the fact. Their verbiage serves only as a window into the corrupted thought processes of sociopaths, criminals, traitors, and all manner of somewhat lesser despicables. I currently favor Mr. Muellers methodology: deny these parasites any directly engaged forum, favoring instead observation and documention, as foundation for judgement of their actions. In
the meantime, we simply weather their futile flailings, however increasingly desperate and fanciful. Such tawdry spectacle serves only as darkly pathetic theater of the doomed.
Darker still the newest proposal to mete death as diversionary spectacle a la Duterte - the worst of humanity always get around to proclaiming human sacrifice as the path to paradise. History clearly demonstrates the total, abject failure of such unworthy connivance.

(1,002 posts)All tRump and his goons do is lie, lie, lie! Sarah Huckabee Sanders told the press that Andrew McCabe was not going to be fired. The next day he was fired - etc. etc. No need to list all the names of all those fired so far and the lies told by this sorry excuse of a WhiteHouse. They'll keep chipping away, trying to discredit Mueller's integrity or maybe the Orange Berserker will fire him early this AM in one of his deranged tweets.
