White House trade adviser dodges over US leaving World Trade Organization

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro on Sunday dodged a question about whether the United States will ultimately leave the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Navarro told CNNs Jake Tapper on "State of the Union" it was a provocative question to ask if the Trump administration will pull the U.S. out of the intergovernmental group.
Navarro said that the WTO is a big part of the problem when it comes to trade.
A lot of the problem has been the World Trade Organization, which is over 160 countries, and a lot of them simply dont like us and so we dont get good results there, Navarro said.

White House trade advisor: Tariffs are to protect economic and national security

The Trump administrations decision to place steep tariffs on steel and aluminum imports is for both national and economic security, according to White House trade advisor Peter Navarro.
This is an action basically to protect our national security and economic security, Navarro told CNNs State of the Union.
The remark comes after President Trump last week announced that the United States would place a 25 percent tariff on steel imports and 10 percent on aluminum, a move that rattled both Washington, D.C., and the global market.
Navarro, the director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy, during the interview argued that China is the source of the problem despite its low place on the list of exporters. The White House advisor said China has tremendous overcapacity that allows it to flood the market, which ripples down.
