Florida shooting: West Point admits murdered hero

Source: The BBC (on-line)

A reserves trainee who died helping other students escape a Florida school shooting has been posthumously accepted to a prestigious US military school.

Peter Wang, 15, who was one of 17 killed in the 14 February attack, was admitted to the class of 2025 at his dream school, West Point Academy.

He was a member of the US Army Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC), a school programme for potential US military officers.

His funeral took place on Tuesday.

every time something new emerges. At the same time I am so proud of the young people who are organizing to fight against ignorance in the presence of school shootings - 18 since the first of January. That is pathetic and our elected officials are abdicating their duties to their constituents. I swear that I cry at least once a day on the average. I keep thinking that I should be out of tears, but they just keep coming.

That is what our military has been fighting for since 1776. Our school children should not have to become the "cost of freedom" for gun humpers!

But I've had people say that to my face. I like to respond with "so you'd be okay if your kid was the sacrifice on this altar of freedom, right?" That's when they start tap-dancing.

It's always easy to talk about paying the price of freedom when it's some other grieving parent paying the tab. I use that when they advocate for going to war unnecessarily, too.

A Human, a man, a warrior... I'm so sick of our children dying, I just can't do it anymore! Our children have more honor than the adults. Children are rising are woke. It's these young warriors that are going to save us, it was a young lady's dream that started Standing Rock, they will go down is history as Saviors, Hero's, exceptional human beings. You just don't mess with the children.

The Army has awarded Medals of Heroism, the service’s highest medal for Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadets, to the three JROTC students killed defending their classmates from a gunman at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida on Feb. 14

The Medal of Heroism, awarded to students Peter Wang, Alaina Petty and Martin Duque, recognizes JROTC cadets whose achievements “involved the acceptance of danger and extraordinary responsibilities, exemplifying praiseworthy courage and fortitude.”

He was wearing a maroon shirt with the logo from the Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps when he was arrested, and used to be a member of the ROTC marksmanship team before he was expelled.

Those boys had great courage themselves, since they exhibited the kind of selfless service to which we all should aspire. It had little to to with JROTC - since that other boy could take such a total different lesson from belonging to this.
