Trump surveyed Mar-a-Lago members over gun control in wake of school shooting: report
Source: MSN/The Hill
President Trump asked members at his Mar-a-Lago estate about their views on gun control in the wake of the shooting at a nearby Florida high school, The Washington Post reported Sunday.
Trump reportedly asked the members about whether or not he should take an active stance on gun control laws over the holiday weekend. He also told them that he was closely watching the media appearances made by student survivors of the shooting, according to the Post.
Student survivors called on Trump and lawmakers to take action on gun control in the wake of the shooting that left 17 people dead. Several survivors made appearances on Sunday morning shows.
The White House announced Sunday that Trump will host a "listening session" with students to discuss school safety measures.

(8,200 posts)I would like to remind people that during the prohibition days the gangsters obtained Thompson Machine Guns. The were deadly weapons and led to the severe restriction of their ownership and the fact that Clinton, by executive action restricted assault type weapons only to be overturned when the presidency fell into the hands of those owed by the NRA.

(44,130 posts)which one would assume that they don't want him near them. He's a moron. DOES he imagine they'll meet with him alone so he can manipulate and threaten and bully them into submission, into dropping it All? Adult/lawyer supervised if the students agree to his lame "listening" meeting. That should throw him off.

Both documentaries describe the great concentration of wealth at the top of American society and also the anger building in the workers and impoverished during that time. Workers were armed and clashes between the forces of the super rich and working class got violent.
If I were one of today's top 1%, I'd be worried about a similar populist uprising finding a real populist (not the fake one Trump is) to get behind. I'd be worried about the fact that these people have easy access to guns. Therefore, I'd be telling Trump to get behind gun control asap.

(19,204 posts)He's so deaf to what people are communicating to him that he needs others to form opinions that he can then glom onto as his own. In the White House he always has that evil shit Stephen Miller to tell him what his "base" wants to hear. Trump was just at the school where this nightmare unfolded. He listened to the children whose lives will be forever scarred by this senseless slaughter. However, instead of listening to the people these horrid acts of violence truly affect, he listens to the rich people at his "club" who are so far removed from gun violence it's ridiculous. But those are the people Trump will favor for any (if at all) action he decides to take. Just like he ignores over 60% of the population and always caters to the 30-40% that are his "base".
Donald Trump is incapable of taking a stand that might be unpopular with his "base". He has absolutely no backbone. He does whatever is personally expedient, not even politically expedient. It's always about him.

I do not expect trump or those in his circle to understand how polls and surveys work. That would be too much like asking them to understand science.

Besides they have a meeting with their architect to look over plans for their new million $$$ mansion and don't have time to worry their "beautiful minds" with these shootings.
