‘Don’t ever preach to me again!’: Ex-GOP chair tells evangelicals who still support Trump to ‘shut the hell up!’

Former Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele blasted Family Research Council president Tony Perkins for giving President Donald Trump a “mulligan” on paying hush money to former adult film star.

-snip-

“I have very simple admonition: just shut the hell up and don’t preach to me about anything ever again,” Steele suggested.

“After telling me who to love, what to believe, what to do and what not to do and now you sit back and the prostitutes don’t matter, the grabbing the you-know-what doesn’t matter, the outright behavior and lies don’t matter, just shut up!” Steele blasted.

“They have no voice of authority anymore for me,” Steele concluded.

Steele was born in '58 and was raised in South Carolina
There was opposition in many places around the country, including South Carolina which is the home to Bob Jones University, which had a school policy that did not allow for Interracial dating of any kind.
That is what I am referencing when I wrote that. I do not know if he ever had a girlfriend that wasn't African-American, or if he had interests in a girl that wasn't.
But, he likely heard it many, many times. "Keep to your own kind."
I'm not gay, but I grew up in a time (I was born in 64) where people were quick to say that was wrong -- and they said it to everybody, not just gay people.

Forget about Ben Carson - he doesn't know if he's been punched, reamed or bored. MS seemed to have at least some self-awareness, and he always struck me as much more of an Olde Tyme Republican who actually believed in "true" conservative values than the pack of rabid wolverines he "led". The kind of opposition with whom you could at least have civil discourse.

Perhaps that impression wasn't so far off as it sometimes appeared.

That was several weeks ago.

When one youngster asked him about the GOP's moral authority, clearly hoping Steele could tell them how to bolster it and use it, he burst out, "Oh HELL no!" Then he went on a righteous rant saying pretty much what you just quoted here.

Michael Steele has zero fucks left to give that morally bankrupt party.

He is truly small-c conservative. When talking about his political and social philosophy, he gave a bit of his autobiography. Straight out of college he went into Roman Catholic seminary to study for the priesthood (Governor Jerry Brown also studied for the priesthood). He talked about what the vows he took really meant in relationship to other human beings, and it was all about that relationship and compassion toward others. How he ended up a Republican I do not know, but he sure is not one any more.

He and others who have given up on the GOP in the past several years have not only earned my respect, but have taught me something about myself, and that is a recognition that I may judge too quickly and without enough information.

Most high-profile Trump supporters, Christian or otherwise, are not intellectually honest. If they were, we'd see them explaining what's really behind all this cynical piety: that they want a white man in the White House, that they want conservative Christian values to be codified into law, that they want to hang onto their cash, and that everybody else can go to hell. Perhaps literally.
