Fox host on Trump s---hole remark: 'This is how the forgotten men and women talk'

Fox News host Jesse Watters defended President Trump's reported remark calling Haiti and some African nations "shithole" countries on Thursday, arguing that the "forgotten men and women" who make up the president's base would approve of the remark.
On Fox News's "The Five," Watters fought back against criticism from Democrats and some Republicans over Trump's remark, which some have deemed racist and offensive to immigrants from those nations.
"This is how the forgotten men and women of America talk at the bar," Watters told his co-hosts. "If you're at a bar, and you're in Wisconsin, and you think they're bringing in a bunch of Haiti people, or El Salvadorans, or people from Niger, this is how some people talk."
"Is it graceful? No," he added. "Is it polite, or delicate? Absolutely not. Is it a little offensive? Of course it is. But you know what? This doesn't move the needle at all."

"..to vote for me...privilege" - a theory I've developed about Obama
Trump's comments today about the audience having the privilege to vote for him reminded me of something I've been thinking about recently.
Stepping back a few steps - Why were people so willing to accept negatives about Obama?
Party affiliation? Sure. Racism? Of course. Brainwashing? To some degree.
People love to gripe and moan
This cuts across race or location -urban or rural.
From "the man keeping me down" to "take this job and shove it" there's a constant energy of anger at outside forces. The Army runs on it (trust me). Talk radio was created to give the White guy stuck in traffic or in their car unhappy with their boss/wife/lot in life a target for their rage.
Familiarty
People are familiar with being angry. Their used to it and they don't like it being messed with but they want it how they are used to it.
I used to work with social workers. The smoking area at any work is a World of wisdom and rumor. I used to talk several times a day with social workers who'd seen it all. From counseling Post Office employees (Vietnam Vets) to crisis management (jumpers) to mental health to substance abuse in every setting imaginable between them. There was something I learned that is a truism in the industry especially in substance abuse - its hard to beat the community. This is how things are. People like the familiarity even if it's bad.
One said it straight to me: "Sure they can get out but the people around them give them every chance to fail. Wanna know why? If this person gets out it means that they could have too and they don't want to face that. If no one gets out then they are right and comfortable"
WE WANT OUR COUNTRY BACK!
The racial element of that has been well covered. What did they want back? Basically everyone just got ripped off. Here's come this middle class guy following the bluest of Brahman elite. Unlike Bill "The Boy from Hope" Clinton played up his past against the Elder Bush, Obama didn't (this could have been a measured move by the campaign) instead focusing on the future and avoiding the juxtaposition (though implied) to W. What they wanted back was their familiar place.
Their familiar place was that they couldn't really see ever attaining what Obama had. It was too in their face, the face in the mirror.

They hate the "others"/immigration/trade/First Amendment,etc.
But they love their cheap goods, their Smartphones/Ipods/labtops/cheap deals at Wal-Mart.
They love the Constitutional protections for themselves, but no one else.
They want it both ways.

http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/326820-sanders-defends-trump-voters-i-dont-think-theyre-racists
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (I) on Friday defended voters of President Trump, saying that the election was Democrats' to lose and that the party needs to better represent the working-class voters who supported Trump and other GOP lawmakers
"Some people think that the people who voted for Trump are racists and sexists and homophobes and deplorable folks. I don't agree, because I've been there. Let me tell you something else some of you might not agree with, it wasn't that Donald Trump won the election, it was that the Democratic Party lost the election," Sanders said while speaking at an Our Revolution rally in Boston with fellow Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.).
Sanders went on to say that a "fundamental restructuring of the Democratic party" was needed to win future elections and that problems with party's current setup is why many were quick to support Trump in the election, not because of some of the rhetoric on the campaign trail.
"We need a Democratic Party that is not a party of the liberal elite but of the working class of this country, we need a party that is a grassroots party, where candidates are talking to working people not spending their time raising money for the wealthy and the powerful," Sanders said. "And when we do that, when we transform the Democratic Party, we transform America."

(68 posts)I continue to be amazed that these "forgotten" cannot learn where to focus the blame. It is always "the other" . . . the brown person, the black person, the poorer person . . . who "took his job." This "forgotten" never asks himself how "the other" TOOK the job. "The other" is as powerless as he is; "the other" can merely take a job if it is offered. The truth is, his job was taken by a boss who found someone even further down the economic ladder whose exploitation put a little bit more money in the pocket of the boss.
