Roy Moore files complaint to delay election certification

The Roy Moore campaign filed a complaint Wednesday to have the election certification delayed "until a full investigation of voter fraud is conducted," according to a statement from his campaign.

The complaint includes affidavits from three "national election integrity experts" who claim election fraud occurred and a statement from Moore saying he successfully completed a polygraph test confirming the representations of misconduct made against him during the campaign are "completely false."

Moore has not conceded the election more than two weeks after he was defeated by Democrat Doug Jones.

"This is not a Republican or Democrat issue as election integrity should matter to everyone," Moore said. "We call on Secretary of State Merrill to delay certification until there is a thorough investigation of what three independent election experts agree took place: election fraud sufficient to overturn the outcome of the election."

You expect us to believe that 20K+ people just kinda 'showed up', like in rented buses from out of state, with fake ID's, having falsely registered (a FEDERAL CRIME that carries like 5 year sentence), and NOBODY in the entire chain (which would involve many 1000's more people) has 'talked' about this huge crime/scheme? None of the bus drivers, bus company owners, none of the canvassers involved in locating the 20,000 people supposedly willing to commit a FEDERAL CRIME, and none of the 100's of people responsible for checking legal residency requirements for registration, AND none of the (at minimum) 20,000+ people who were APPROACHED about committing this crime, but said 'hell no I'm not going to jail!' ... AND no UNINVOLVED people ... those who happened to be at the polling places who'd have witnessed these busloads being dropped off ... has 'come forward'?

That is, if the election were held 13 billion times, that in only one of those times would it occur that "in certain precincts in Jefferson County, about a third fewer {would vote} for Moore than for the straight Republican ticket."

Full disclosure: for the first time in my life, I donated money to a politician. It was for Doug Jones. As his winning went from completely improbable to "you know, he just might pull this out," I doubled down. I am so glad I did.

Roy Moore, the Republican nominee who lost Alabama’s closely watched Senate race this month, has filed a last-minute legal complaint alleging “election fraud” and asking the state not to confirm the victory of Democrat Doug Jones. ... In the complaint filed in state court, Moore’s campaign argues that Alabama “will suffer irreparable harm if the election results are certified without preserving and investigating all the evidence of potential fraud.” It cites rumors of election fraud that have already been investigated and refuted by the Alabama secretary of state, argues that high Democratic turnout in key areas was statistically unlikely, and reports that Moore himself has taken a polygraph test — an attempt to disprove allegations that he made unwanted sexual advances on teenagers when he was in his 30s.

Moore’s lawyers filed the complaint at 10:33 p.m. Wednesday night and announced it to reporters less than two hours later. At 1 p.m. Thursday, Alabama’s election officials — all Republicans — are scheduled to certify the election. Early Thursday morning, they gave no indication that they would delay that process. In Washington, leaders of both parties expect Jones to take his oath of office when the Senate returns next month.

The Moore campaign’s main argument is that high Democratic turnout and low support for Moore in the state’s most populous, urban counties resulted in an “implausible, unexplained 35 percent drop in votes for Roy Moore relative to the vote share of Republican Party straight-line votes.” While Moore dramatically underperformed other Republican candidates in Alabama when he last ran for office, in 2012, the campaign cites four “experts” to argue that the state should “order a new special election to be held based upon the already known fraud which [Secretary of State John Merrill] had acknowledged and taken action against and the further fraud alleged in this complaint.”

The experts came to the case with baggage of their own. James Condit Jr., one of the election analysts who signed an affidavit on behalf of Moore’s campaign, has written and spoken about “Zionist” control of world politics, and alleged an Israeli role in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Richard Charnin, who provided the court with an argument that there was just enough possible fraud to swing the election, claimed to have “mathematically” proven a conspiracy behind the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

The Roy Moore campaign filed a complaint Wednesday to have the election certification delayed "until a full investigation of voter fraud is conducted," according to a statement from his campaign.

But Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill told The Associated Press Wednesday evening that he has no intention of delaying the canvassing board meeting.

"It is not going to delay certification, and Doug Jones will be certified (Thursday) at 1 p.m., and he will be sworn in by Vice President Pence on the third of January," Merrill said.

Here's Moore's affidavit claiming he passed a polygraph test. He also continues to claim he never had any sexual conduct with any of the women who accused him of sexual misconduct.

Alabama certifies Jones’ Senate victory

The state of Alabama on Thursday certified Democrat Doug Jones as the winner of this month’s special Senate election after a judge denied Republican Roy Moore’s effort to halt the process via a last-ditch lawsuit charging widespread voter fraud.

Jones won the election with 673,896 votes, or just under 50 percent of the total votes cast in the Dec. 12 special election for the seat vacated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, according to official results released Thursday. Moore received 651,972 votes, or 48.3 percent. The remaining 22,852 voters wrote in other candidates.

Moore, who has refused to concede since the Dec. 12 vote, filed a last-minute lawsuit late Wednesday seeking to delay certification of Jones’ win and launch a fraud investigation into the election results. But the certification proceeded as planned on Thursday, with Secretary of State John Merrill, Gov. Kay Ivey and state Attorney General Steve Marshall — all Republicans — signing off on the proceedings. Shortly before the 1 p.m. Central Time event, a Montgomery County circuit court judge had denied Moore’s attempt to obtain a restraining order to stop the state’s action.

Moore did not concede to Jones nor congratulate him on his win on Thursday, instead issuing a defiant statement that reiterated his allegations of voter fraud and said he has "stood for the truth about God and the Constitution for the people of Alabama."
