Red-state Dem: GOP tax bill 'one of the shittiest bills' ever

A Democratic senator from a traditionally red state sharply criticized the GOP tax bill on Wednesday after the bill passed the Senate.
Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) told reporters Wednesday that the Republican plan to reform America's tax code was "one of the shittiest bills thats ever come in front of the Senate," and remarked that the country had seen better days.

A request for comment on the quote from Tester's office was not immediately returned. Montana is a traditionally Republican-held state, where President Trump won with 56 percent of the vote in November. Tester, a Democrat who last won reelection to a second term in 2012, won with 48.6 percent of the vote.
Red-state Democrats have targeted the Trump administration over the tax bill, calling tax reform a missed opportunity for President Trump and Republicans to build bipartisan support among more centrist Democrats.

(43,409 posts)Your future now has inflation and lower benefits and cash flows baked into the cake.
To trim personal spending to make up for this bludgeoning would be a prudent idea.
Recession is on the horizon.

(86,875 posts)quick to throw Tester into that race. Leave him in the Senate where he can be worthwhile. I have yet to see anything presidential about him and he's my Senator.

(1,103 posts)win and then to pass such a horrible tax law that will hurt so many people ----and they think the majority of people will love it. If anything, I can see massive voting against the reThugs in 2018 because of the tax law. Unless, of course, they've already planned on no more elections taking place, as suggested in a previous comment. I've been thinking the same thing. They've been so rotten, I wouldn't put iit past them to try something like that.

(578 posts)it because they benefited from the bill. Keep in mind all these senators and congressmen tend to be millionaires. It's a win win situation for the republicans in the sense even if they don't get re-elected that they still get to enrich their pockets from this bill.

Twern't no "we" on this one. It's all theirs.
Twern't no "Trumpism" on this one, either. They packed in as much of the long-standing conservative wish list as they could manage. It's what the "Never Trumpers" always wanted.

(1,103 posts)an "accomplishment" is way beyond me. They try to make it sound good just because it got passed. "Shitty" may be the best word for it. Who knows what they will try to sling at us next if they think that bill was so great.

(6,229 posts)The opposite might be equally true re: the tax bill (aka giveaway to rich).
If you ask a republican he or she will say the reason that the tax bill ONLY has a 24% approval rating is
Quote: "Because they haven't read it and so the don't know about all the great, wonderful, etc, etc things in it."
Can't the opposite also be true?
When they do read it (or more analysis) are published there is a very good likelihood that the 24% approval will drop even more. Maybe into the teens. This will be an albatross around the GOP neck in the 2018 certainly the 2020 election cycle.
I hope one of the progressive think tanks builds an online tool to simulate what your tax return will look like in 2019 based on your 2017 tax status.
The more people know the less the poor and middle class (<$1,000,000) will like it.
