IVANKA TRUMP SURPRISES NORWALK SCHOOL BUT PARENTS PULL THEIR KIDS FROM CLASS

An unannounced school visit by first daughter Ivanka Trump, intended to be a pleasant surprise, wound up causing some anti-Donald-Trump parents to pull their kids from class.
Ivanka spent Monday morning at the Norwalk Early College Academy in Connecticut talking about the importance of education in the sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics. The first daughters visit to the academy was part of her tour pushing for STEM and computer science education in classrooms.
"To see the passion and enthusiasm for bringing real-life skills into a classroom environment, but then coupling it with real-life experience through internship, creates this really beautiful virtuous angle," she said, according to News 12 Connecticut.
But some parents who oppose her father yanked their children from class. They said they received little information about Ivankas visit, possibly due to security concerns.

Remember when she was challenged at...the UN?...some big GLOBAL do, he was out of sight and she was plopped in the chair behind The Pres of the USA place card.
Someone asked about it, and she claimed she was "saving" his place.

Just a bad example to set for your children in my opinion.
If our plan is to not show up every time these clowns speak we lose.

(21,506 posts)It is a perfect opportunity to educate your children on propaganda.
These aren't kindergartners these are 8th graders.
I have an 8th grader myself and he knows exactly who these folks are.
The idea they need shielding instead of educating is exactly why we are in the spot we are in today.
I will say it again if our answer to these clowns is to run away instead of stand up to them we are already lost.
Girard442
(6,087 posts)...the threats would come, with no assurance that they'd all be idle. Better to vote with feet. Let CNN show Ivanka talking to a bunch of empty chairs.

(21,506 posts)Time to stand up the time for running away and hiding is over. If we do not stand up now we will lose this country.
You don't stop a bully by running away from them. All you do is embolden them.
Girard442
(6,087 posts)OK, I know that's probably ahistorical, but the principle is still good. Use your head in a fight. Don't fight on turf where the adversary has a big advantage. Remember, the people who didn't show to Trump's inaugural were the one who really cut him to the quick.

(37,748 posts)Standing up by sitting down in an audience denied a Q&A session seems absurdly ineffective. No doubt, you'll supply objective means through which this vaguely defined status of "standing up" prevents a loss of country, and precisely how the walk-outs embolden "them" in this particular instance (we're certain however, you're clever enough to know that anecdotal evidence, as you allowed us earlier, is invalid).
Else it's simply a reading from a series of sentimental bumper-sticker and motivational posters.
MrPurple
(985 posts)Since this is the administration's photo op, better to leave them with empty chairs. If it was a pre-announced visit with Q&A, that would be a different story.

(2,766 posts)Seems to me that if we turn into the kind of people who act ugly we are the losers.
Pulling those kids out doesn't seem at all likely to do anything other than to cause Ivanka and those around her to justify their own ugly actions. It's human nature to try to justify oneself when confronted. Seems counter-productive to me.
Besides, what is it teaching the kids? That it's okay to shun someone?
mr_lebowski
(33,643 posts)Gimme a break.
Yes, it's incumbent on the parents to inform the children WHY they are being removed, and WHY you don't want them used as Ivanka Trump's photo-op props, to be sure.
But to suggest parents shouldn't take this action because it comes off a 'shunning' the Spawn of Satan that is Ivanka ... and cuz it's just not 'nice' to 'shun people' ... is wrong-headed, no offense ... but I must strongly disagree.

Courage of conviction. I can understand though, why many people's biases may deny them that perspective.
