UPDATED: Trump sets out national security strategy of 'principled realism' and global competition

President Trump framed a new national security strategy Monday that cast his election as a pivot from failed economic policies and shortsighted negotiating strategies.

“You spoke loud and you spoke clear,” Trump said of his upset election last year. “On November 8, you voted to make America great again. You embraced new leadership and new strategies and also a glorious new hope,” he said.

The congressionally mandated National Security Strategy presents China and Russia as competitors that want to realign global power in their interests, potentially threatening the United States.

“Whether we like it or not, we are engaged in a new era of competition,” Trump said.

UPDATE:

Trump: U.S. can't guard its interests abroad if it doesn't 'protect prosperity at home'

The president’s first National Security Strategy takes a tough line on Russia as critics wonder whether it reflects Trump’s true thinking.

President Donald Trump unveiled a national security plan Monday that reflects the most inward-focused vision of American foreign policy in recent memory — with a heavy emphasis on economic strength and defending U.S. borders.

In remarks Monday afternoon, Trump pointed to his November 2016 election and his January inauguration as turning points for a nation whose leaders he said had forgotten "whose voices they were to respect and whose interests they were supposed to defend."

"Optimism has surged. Confidence has returned. With this new confidence, we are also bringing back clarity to our thinking. We are reasserting these fundamental truths: A nation without borders is not a nation. A nation that does not protect prosperity at home cannot protect its interests abroad," he said. Trump also argued that strength at home is the first step toward strength abroad.

"A nation that is not prepared to win a war is a nation not capable of preventing a war. A nation that is not proud of its history cannot be confident in its future and a nation that is not certain of its values cannot summon the will to defend them."

during the election a caller to Cspan who was a trumpster predicted a 100 year world war. he wanted that. i was so horrified. now i'm beginning to think that trump wants that too, and he's setting it up for the USA to lose. i just cannot figure out the end game to his constant, incessant, relentless, attack on anything and everything that made this country what it used to be, a country i once felt very grateful to have been born in and lived in.

Everything the Creep-in-Chief does freaks me out, too.
The first film in the Star Wars saga, actually Episode 4, is entitled, "A New Hope."
And Trump and Bannon do seem like pure Sith, so...

The Trumpistas and the Partida Bananero Republicano have neither.

The principled, realistic objective of all patriotic Americans should be to throw these vende-patrias out of office, then sent in the investigators and prosecute.
