Before talking taxes on CNN this morning, Treasury Sec. Steve Mnuchin weighed in on the ongoing Mueller probe and whether the special counsel will be fired.
On State of the Union, Jake Tapper asked Mnuchin if it would alarm him were President Trump to fire Mueller.
Mnuchin said he was at dinner with Trump last night and hasnt heard anything about this, any firing. He told Tapper he has no reason to think Trump would do it. He went on to say, Weve got to get past this investigation. Its a giant distraction. Nobody has said that in any way this impacted the outcome of the election.
Tapper asked him if he thinks it should run its course. Mnuchin said, I think it should be over quickly, since I think theres nothing there. It should be over quickly. And people want to focus on other things.

Mnuchin: I've never been told not to use certain words at Treasury
BY MALLORY SHELBOURNE - 12/17/17 09:29 AM EST
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Sunday that he has never received directives banning specific words from use at the Treasury Department, a comment that follows a report saying the Trump administration banned employees at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from using certain phrases in official documents.
Im not aware of that directive at all, Mnuchin told CNNs State of the Union when asked about The Washington Post report, which said the administration barred the CDC from using specific phrases like science-based and "evidence-based," among others.
During the Sunday show interview, Mnuchin said he was not aware of the order and said he has never been told not to use certain words at the Treasury Department, nor has he told Treasury employees not to use certain words. Nobodys told me not to use certain words and Ive never told anybody in Treasury not to use certain words, Mnuchin said.
The report in The Post said the CDC provided policy analysts with the list of banned words that are not be used in documents related to next years budget.

Mnuchin: 90 percent of Americans will be able to file taxes on postcard
BY OLIVIA BEAVERS - 12/17/17 09:40 AM EST
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Sunday doubled down on comments that 90 percent of Americans will be able to file their taxes on a postcard under Republican legislation.
"Over 90 percent of Americans are going to fill out taxes on that postcard or a virtual electronic postcard. This is about simplifying taxes and simplifying the business systems," Mnuchin told host Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday."
"So there will always be people who complain they are losing tax breaks, but this is about making it simple for the American public," he added.
Wallace pressed him on claim, however, pointing to changes to the bill.
"Absolutely, they will take the standard deduction and that is what they will file," Mnuchin responded.

(247 posts)the hacking of our election by a hostile country and possible conspiracy by Trump and his cohorts is no big deal to this clown. The only people who want this investigation to end are the Trump apologists. If this clown knows so much of the Mueller investigation's evidence, maybe he can tell us what the emails are all about.

(611 posts)....one wonders what the guilty pleas were about. What were they admitting they were guilty of?
This is more wishful thinking on Mnuchins part. I remember when Watergate was dismissed as a third rate burglary, and we know where that went.
