Cornyn: We probably could have made tax bill better if Democrats participated

Source: The Hill

BY JULIA MANCHESTER - 12/17/17 09:25 AM EST

Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-Tx.) said on Sunday that tax reform legislation poised to pass through both houses of Congress this week could have been better if Democrats participated in drafting the plan.

"Our Democratic colleagues simply refused to participate in the process. We probably could have made it better if they had but we were determined to get this job done, to cut taxes, to reform the tax code for the first time in thirty years," Cornyn said on ABC News' "This Week."

Cornyn was responding to recent criticism of a last-minute tax break could give millions of money to President Trump and other Republicans who receive money from the real estate sector through LLCs. "Picking out one piece in a thousand page bill and saying this is going to benefit somebody, I just think that takes the whole bill out context," Cornyn said.

The senator's comments come as House and Senate Republicans find themselves on the brink of their first major legislative victory in the form of a tax code overhaul.

BULLSHIT! That IS the "context". It is a complete giveaway to the 1%. There is "1 piece" here and "1 piece" there and many hundreds of similar "1 pieces" that do the same thing. Take from the poor, working class, and middle class and give to the filthy rich.

There should be a good sermon made around how God doesn't hold Republicans accountable because they are under the influence and manipulation of the Devil's Democrats who, in doing nothing, create a hole of sin temptation that Republican's fall into because they can't resist without Devil Democrat help.

strikes again! They also claim to be the party of family values, balanced budgets, and law and order. Their base may believe their bullshi@t, but others including the youth of America (who will have to deal with the enormous future debt) are seeing the light. Also, all of a sudden, our intelligence agencies and Republican, Robert Mueller (a man of impeccable integrity) have no credibility to the Trump apologists.

I believe in 2018, that a groundswell of support from activists will ignite a vast change in American politics. 2017 was just a preview.

major bill in over 30 years. We know from the fraud Healthcare bill they tried to develop they did not have the smarts or intelligence to create one. They did not learn from the tax cuts G. Bush did with their support and it killed the economy and millions of jobs. Will they ever learn or is it there agenda to take down our nation and the people. Are they really supporting Trump in destroying democracy.

I hate that lying POS. Democrats might have participated if they’d been given a chance. Instead, this bill was written in secret and in collaboration with all the Repuke mega-donors.

Cornyn better worry about Judgment Day.

What a piece of work Cornyn is. His only'concern' is how to tie the Democrats to the tax cut. When Obama gave tax cuts to us he did not raise taxes on us by cutting programs that benefit us, the middle class.

Because if Republicans were doing it by themselves without allowing input from Democrats, they needed 51 votes. They bought those votes by giving each Republican holdout something their state wanted in the bill.

That’s just a side benefit. The real intent is to destroy the social safety net and to hasten the transfer of the commons to the private sector. Asking Democrats to help destroy these things is like telling someone sitting in the gas chamber to inhale deeply when the fumes start to come up.
