The Silence Breakers are TIME's 2017 Person of the Year
Source: Today
TIME has named The Silence Breakers, the individuals who set off a national reckoning over the prevalence of sexual harassment, as its 2017 Person of the Year.
The magazine's editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal revealed the selection Wednesday on TODAY along with the cover, a composite group photo that includes actress Ashley Judd, singer Taylor Swift and former Uber engineer Susan Fowler.
"The galvanizing actions of the women on our coveralong with those of hundreds of others, and of many men as well, have unleashed one of the highest-velocity shifts in our culture since the 1960s," Felsenthal said in a statement.
The Silence Breakers emerged amid burgeoning allegations of sexual misconduct and assault by film executive Harvey Weinstein. As his list of accusers swelled, so did the number of people who spoke up to expose dozens of other famous individuals in Hollywood, politics, journalism and other industries as sexual predators.

(62,468 posts)good choice.
Lots of great choices this year, most everyone of which has something to do with some form of resisting the current administration.

(36,907 posts)Although, that probably highlights the Silence Breakers even more (especially since he is included in the article)!

(2,284 posts)Time magazine never asks people if they want to be named Person of the Year. tRump put out that lie in order to save face in case he didn't win--and tee-hee, he didn't.

(9,898 posts)these ladies "victims of abuse" or are you being ironic that they are being touted as victims of abuse because Matt Lauer was a pig to them at their job in a network high rise somewhere? Because I work with "victims of abuse," and these ladies ain't it.

(1,606 posts)Or at least do their best, with phony/bullshit attempts to get rid of pesty outspoken males in public positions. (Franken, Seder are recent examples)
For every legit complaint, there's also some jackassery going on. The fascists know how emotional and knee-jerk the public "outrage" is nowadays to assume guilt so they are of course using this to their advantage as best they can.
They know full well that Americans have simply no critical thinking capability, it's all tribalism and illiterate emotional posturing. It's been a pretty good strategy for them, it works. Seder got fired, corporate media tries their darndest to smear Franken, etc.
Glad that a few true scumbags at least are getting ousted lately, at least.
Don't know how I really feel about this as it is actually being used against us pretty successfully.
I mean sure Weinstein is ousted, but Trump & Moore are so far just fine (gee wonder why.)

Personally, I think Rose Mcgowan should be on the cover...or Kesha, her story is nuts.
