Conway on Moore: We need him for tax reform
(CNN)Mitt Romney, on the day President Donald Trump endorsed Roy Moore in the Alabama Senate race, issued a strong rebuke of Republicans embracing the controversial candidate.
Romney tweeted, "Roy Moore in the US Senate would be a stain on the GOP and on the nation. Leigh Corfman and other victims are courageous heroes. No vote, no majority is worth losing our honor, our integrity."...............................

(721 posts)I want that disgusting man to fade from the scenes sooner rather than later.
I do not care if he is on "our side" on an issue. His opinion carries exactly as much weight as Roy Moore's or Trump's with me. i.e. none whatsoever.

(9,090 posts)What if Trump wants out and wants Romney to run on a platform of a kinder psycho conservative platform in 2020.
So... make Romney out to be a peacemaker, bringing the "moderates" back into the fold and if elected continue the terror on the U.S.

I have no doubts Romney could find a way to justify Moore as a Senator were he in the oval or even in Congress.

(9,133 posts)It looks like those values of honor, decency, and integrity which some members of your party once had have gone out the window.
Edit: And after the last election, I dont believe there are enough decent Republicans left to make a difference in changing what your party has become.

(2,674 posts)Texas Rep, Joe Barton had Nudie pics put up on the internet. Then another lady told the Dallas Morning News how he sent sexy messages to her. Texans in his district were having none of it and he was soundly booed, shamed and laughed at. He then announced he would run again. He was dead meat in the eyes of good Texans.
Shameful that people in Alabama will vote for Roy Moore, what he did was far worse than Joe Barton, and like Barton, you know there were other girls involved.

(2,574 posts)object to Moore ( as well they should) on the issue of his heinous personal behavior, and they object to Trump on issues of style. Scratch the thin veneer of civility, and they have the same rotten, pasteboard souls and support the same destructive policies. They have the same disdain for working people, for people of color, for immigrants, for the LGBTQ community. Romney - were he senator - would line right up and support the same despicable policies ( see the "honorable" Jeff Flake, John McCain, Susan Collins et al. on the recent mugging of the middle class and murder of the poor masquerading as a tax bill) .

(19,204 posts)Republicans lost all all of their honor and integrity decades ago. They've been on life support for years now, but when Republicans allowed Trump to be their presidential candidate for 2016, and then sat quietly by as he totally eviscerated the Constitution of the United States, they lost every iota of honor, integrity, compassion, honesty.....everything that makes a human being, HUMAN, they ever had.
Fuck you, Mitt, you Mormon piece of shit.

(2,878 posts)I'm old enough to remember decent people on the other side of the political spectrum.
Their replacements in this generation are a craven bunch that support a madman, have no discernible plan or program except personal wealth-gathering, and aren't worth a puddle of urine.
A thin shadow can rarely be seen in a quote or vote by McClain or statement by Romney but it only underlines how far they've all sunk.

(19,204 posts)is the same party creating these huge deficits with their incessant tax cuts. The GOP LOVES deficits, because after they run them up, and a Democratic administration comes along, then deficits matter! Can't have any spending on social programs or safety net programs, because "think of the deficit". Then along comes another GOP administration, and we have to cut spending! Look at the deficit! So that gives them an excuse to further decimate Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security etc........... It's a never ending dog and pony show in their efforts to eliminate what they call, ENTITLEMENTS! That's what DECENT people call "helping the most needy among us".

But then Trump would make anybody look good.
Where Romney lost me was when he kept attacking the ACA when it was nearly identical to the legislation he signed into law in Massachusetts. He should have had the balls to say, "Good job, Barack, but I could do better". Perhaps because he knew he couldn't do better than Obama.
But then most if not all the Republicans can't get over the fact that much of what they object to in the ACA was originally a Republican plan (like the mandate).
Pure partisan politics. Disgusting.
