'Embarrassed' Geraldo Rivera apologizes for 'tawdry' memoir

Source: Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — Geraldo Rivera is apologizing for a memoir published a quarter-century ago that recounts sexual experiences he says he’s now “embarrassed” about.

In a tweet on Friday, Rivera, now a Fox News Channel reporter, cites his “tawdry” book and what he calls “consensual events” it recounts. He describes its tone as “distasteful” and “disrespectful.” He says he’s “profoundly sorry” to the women involved and to anyone offended by it.

The book, titled “Exposing Myself,” was published in 1991.

Rivera’s post follows a tweet on Thursday by Bette Midler renewing an allegation of being drugged and groped by Rivera and his producer colleague in the 1970s.

Geraldo Rivera’s 1991 Memoir Is a Horndog’s Bible of Workplace Harassment

He grabs Bette Midler’s boobs, beds every conceivable underling, and waxes about failing to have sex with Barbara Walters. I read it all so you didn’t have to.

Threesomes with young interns in the studio boiler room. Making out with a PA in front of an entire news crew. Receiving oral sex from the estranged wife of the Canadian prime minister in a Central Park rowboat.

These sexual misadventures of one prominent media man could prompt even the most cosmopolitan among us to clutch at our necks for pearls. But I’m not talking about Roger Ailes, Bill O’Reilly, Mark Halperin, or even Matt Lauer. I’m talking Geraldo Rivera.

Up through yesterday, Geraldo didn’t have much to do with the #MeToo movement until he waded unwisely into the conversation with a Streisand Effect tweet that Matt Lauer’s sexual misconduct-related dismissal from NBC’s Today was “sad” because “news is a flirty business & it seems like the current epidemic of #SexHarassmentAllegations may be criminalizing courtship & conflating it w predation.”

Not satisfied with that, the Fox News host continued. “#SexHarassment,” he said, “should be confined to situations where superior imposes himself on subordinate who feels unable to complain because of power of perp or feared consequences to victim’s employment.”

Geraldo Rivera apologizes to Bette Midler after groping allegation
by Oliver Darcy @oliverdarcy December 1, 2017: 3:42 PM ET

geraldo rivera
Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera apologized on Friday to Bette Midler after she accused him earlier this week of drugging and groping her in the 1970s.

"Although I recall the time @BetteMidler has alluded to much differently than she, that does not change the fact that she has a right to speak out & demand an apology from me, for in the very least, publically [sic] embarrassing her all those years ago," Rivera wrote on Twitter. "Bette, I apologize."

Midler has not publicly responded to Rivera's apology. A representative for her did not return a request for comment from CNN.

The incident between Rivera and Midler was thrown into the public spotlight this week after Rivera posted a string of controversial tweets about sexual harassment in the workplace. Following the firing of "Today" anchor Matt Lauer, Rivera tweeted that "news is a flirty business" and the "current epidemic" of sexual harassment allegations might be "criminalizing courtship."

After Fox News said it was "troubled" by the tweets, Rivera apologized for his comments.

But Rivera's tweets prompted Twitter users to dredge up an old interview of Midler speaking with Barbara Walters. In the clip, Midler said she was assaulted by Rivera during an interview in 1970s. ........................

He can't lose the last possible gravy train he has, aka Fox.

He's a narcissistic ass and about as useful as the crap he found in Al Capone's vault.
