(41,832 posts)Exclusive: First charges filed in Mueller investigation
By Pamela Brown, Evan Perez and Shimon Prokupecz, CNN
Updated 8:29 PM ET, Fri October 27, 2017
Washington (CNN)A federal grand jury in Washington, DC, on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to sources briefed on the matter.
The charges are still sealed under orders from a federal judge. Plans were prepared Friday for anyone charged to be taken into custody as soon as Monday, the sources said. It is unclear what the charges are.
A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment.
Mueller was appointed in May to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
Under the regulations governing special counsel investigations, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who has oversight over the Russia investigation, would have been made aware of any charges before they were taken before the grand jury for approval, according to people familiar with the matter.

(51,627 posts)and this is going to take a long time they are saying on CNN right now. Maybe they are trying to get people to flip. Carl Bernstein thinks Mueller is going after conspiracy/collusion more than obstruction. Also, Mueller may be expecting people to flee the country.

(38,445 posts)Sometime after the Watergate scandal hat hit, Woodard and Bernstein appeared at the University of Chicago law school for a short lecture and answer session. It was open to the public and all were invited. A friend and I went. I don't remember the exact date, but I think their first book had been published. After a short talk, question and answers were allowed.
..I got to ask a question which was simply. .Do you think Nixon was nuts ? They did not answer the question because they said that they could not interpret his actions in that way.......Sometime in 74..I think..
A couple of years after that first book, they wrote a second book. I do not remember the name of that 2nd book, but I recall reading a couple of reviews. Basically the 2nd book stated that towards the last month or two of Nixon's time in the Whitehouse...he had gone nuts, talking to the pictures and walls...
BigmanPigman
(51,627 posts)Nixon drank in the evenings so a lot of his actions have been linked to that. I believe he was living with so much guilt that it did indeed effect his mind. He was smart about many things but at the end it caught up with him. I like to think of Poe's The Tell Tale Heart.

(38,445 posts)on anything. If I recall, he almost never said anything in public about anything....
I cannot imagine that happening to Drump. But we are not there yet. I sure hope we get there though. Drump deserves the worst. He is such a mean vicious person. The way he talked to the widow, and even yesterday, bringing it up again.. No humanity or sensitivity at all...and never an apology, never
BigmanPigman
(51,627 posts)He stuck to his story and dug his heels in deeper. David Frost was so mad. I think it was in 1976.
Stuart G
(38,445 posts)But I do recall that after a while, he didn't say much. at least that is what I seem to remember. I don't think he wrote a book about it (I may be wrong) but I do not think he gave many interviews after that one..
But of course, I could be wrong..it was a while ago.. Our family called him Tricky Dick in the 50s..

(6,377 posts)I'm trying to not let myself get too excited, but it's hard not to. Every time something big has broken, it always seems to just sort of fade into the background and not be as big as we thought it would be.
So, I have guarded optimism about this.

(67,782 posts)....last week, and it appears these are Virginia indictments.
The report is that those charged will be taken into custody on Monday.
A pardon would be presidential suicide, even the most zealous republicans won't go for a pardon at this point.
It's going to be a LONG weekend waiting for this to play out!

(675 posts)I got distracted at work and spent all day on Politico and The Hill reading stories about uranium deals, Steele, and Republicans attacking Mueller. Honestly, it made my blood boil because it seemed like a massive hit job of old stories, conspiracy theories, and cover ups. Now it all makes sense, they were desperately trying to deflect before the hammer dropped. People in the comments of these "news" stories kept saying "it seems like they are getting worried", "it seems like they are deflecting" and that turned out to be 100% true. The cathartic feeling I have right now is overwhelming. The Trumpster tears are delicious. They sustain me.
