WASHINGTON President Trump will scrap subsidies to health insurance companies that help pay out-of-pocket costs of low-income people, the White House said late Thursday. His plans were disclosed hours after the president ordered potentially sweeping changes in the nations insurance system, including sales of cheaper policies with fewer benefits and fewer protections for consumers.

Without the subsidies, insurance markets could quickly unravel. Insurers have said they will need much higher premiums and may pull out of the insurance exchanges created under the Affordable Care Act if the subsidies were cut off. Known as cost-sharing reduction payments, or CSRs, the subsidies were expected to total $9 billion in the coming year and nearly $100 billion in the coming decade.
The government cannot lawfully make the cost-sharing reduction payments, the White House said in a statement.
It concluded: Congress needs to repeal and replace the disastrous Obamacare law and provide real relief to the American people.

So, pull FEMA and the military out of Puerto Rico, allow insurance companies to sell junk policies, don't make insurance companies cover anything they don't want to, don't cover contraception, decertify the Iran nuclear agreement, toss out the dreamers, ignore the California wildfires, and don't say a word about the Green Berets killed in Niger.
I hope the Trump voters are thrilled with their President.

(665 posts)Tommy Douglas was voted #1. Why? Because he brought universal health care to his Country. It's gonna suck for a little while, but when universal health care comes to America- and it will- President Obama will be remembered for getting the ball rolling. And Mr. Trump will be remembered for trying to stop it.

(905 posts)I am so glad this is out in the open. I am probably very left leaning, even on this board. I was all for the ACA and when I got laid off in 2016 I signed up immediately. I was at a comfortable premium cost level. I got rid of cable but I am glad it pushed me that way anyways for I now get more channels just through the air. I stopped playing cards once a week. I have cut down on everything but I was not complaining because that is what one does when they are laid off. I needed my savings to last as long as it could and I thought I had 3 - 4 years in the bank but in less then 2 years I am looking at withdrawing from my investments which will kill me tax wise. All in all, I was pleased with my insurance since it was better than anything I ever had from my work insurance.
In January of 2017 my premium went up maybe $20 bucks a month, still ok in my book. Since Trump has taken office my insurance company has re issued my contract with huge raises in premiums and making my co-pays very large. This happened 3 times since February and each time the decide to redo the contract my yearly deductible restarts at zero. Each time my premium has increased to where right now it is 4 times the initial bid in January of 2017 and my co-pays are so high the pharmacy had just charged me as if I had no insurance because it's cheaper. I have to stop my insurance for I am now choosing my premium or my mortgage. My current insurance company has offered me $300 a month and I pay 100% of all doctor visits and other costs. What a deal! Mmmmm no.
I really thought I was crazy but he has let the insurance companies run amok to make the ACA implode.

(51,630 posts)I have been fighting this tooth and nail since Jan. I AM SICK! I am getting sicker and the mental and emotional stress is making me worse. I wanted to die before his term was over so I wouldn't have to see him destroy my country. He has accomplished that already. Now I want to live long enough to watch him and the entire GOP and his dumb fuck base go down in flames. I just hope I die before I bankrupt my 83 year old parents since they will lose their money paying for my necessary surgeries and I can't let that happen.

(22,671 posts)Or is it because he has no empathy for people whose homes are burning to the ground?
Or is it because he has no plan to deal with bump-stock assault weapons?
Or is this because Meuller's investigation of his high crimes keeps him up all night?
Or is it because we see his blatant racism for any Americans who are not white?
Or is it because he wants to bomb other nations and kill people in masses and his generals are ignoring his pleas to do so?
Or is it because he is just suffering from dementia and the fact he's a fucking moron that nobody likes and will be unwept when he passes?
The most important issue on his plate right now, from his standpoint, is taking healthcare away from Americans.
Elections have consequences. This is what Hillary warned us of.
