Floyd Mayweather defeats Conor McGregor by TKO for historic 50-0 record

Source: cnn.com

(CNN)In a result that shocked few, Floyd Mayweather defeated Conor McGregor by technical knockout at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday.

The only certainty of this fight was that it would be a spectacle not seen before.
Two different sports worlds collided into a 12-round junior middleweight boxing match: Mayweather, considered one of the best defensive boxers of all time, coming out of retirement at age 40 seeking to become the first boxer to reach 50 fights undefeated. McGregor, 29, is the current UFC lightweight champion and the most exciting draw in mixed martial arts today -- but it was his first professional boxing match.

Is this the one where two people hit each other in the head with padded fists until one of them loses consciousness from small brain injuries & swelling, or the one where they slowly build up damage by repeatedly smashing their helmeted head into someone else doing the same thing on the other side of an imaginary line?

while Mayweather sized him up. High marks to McGregor for mostly holding his own in a lopsided event.

Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor round by round

Round one: McGregor on the advance, potshotting on the ropes. Solid punches so far. Straight left splits the guard. Again. Lead right from Mayweather. One minute in. Straight lefts from McGregor. Counters. Mayweather to the body, McGregor taunts him. One minute to go. Mayweather slips a combo. Counter uppercut from McGregor. Left to the body, jab upstairs. 10-9 McGregor.

Round two: 2-1 from McGregor as Mayweather backs to the ropes. Rabbit punches from McGregor. Right from Mayweather, counters from McGregor. Mayweather to the body. Straight left by McGregor. One minute in. Uppercut from McGregor, straight right from Mayweather. Mayweather again goes downstairs with the straight right. 2-1 from McGregor. Clinch. One minute to go. 1-2 from McGregor, body shot. Straight right by Mayweather. Counter combo lands for McGregor, holding and hitting. Again. 10-9, 20-18 McGregor.

Round three: Another hammerfist from McGregor. Mayweather intercepting most of these shots, lands a right to the body. Clinch. Another right downstairs. One minute in. Again. Clinch. McGregor with a left downstairs, another rabbit punch. Take a point, man. McGregor uppercut downstairs, straight lefts. Mayweather with more rights downstairs. One minute to go. McGregor keeps hammerfisting and the ref doesn’t care. 10-9 Mayweather, 29-28 McGregor.

Round four: Floyd backs to the ropes, McGregor smacks the body. More hammerfists from McGregor. Lots of clinching. Left hand lands for McGregor. Mayweather to the body a minute in. 2-1 from Mayweather. Hard straight right. Clinch. Body shot, left hook. Left hand from McGregor, body shot from Mayweather. They trade in the center. One minute to go. Straight right by Mayweather. McGregor to the body. Left uppercut. Good trade in the center. Clinch. Rabbit punch from McGregor. 10-9 Mayweather, 38-38.

Round five: Mayweather now on the advance as McGregor flicks out his jab. Mayweather to the body, takes a solid left hand inside. Clinch. One minute in. Mayweather continuing to plug the body, left hand after it. Straight right by Mayweather. McGregor giving ground. More clinching. Short punches from Mayweather. Mayweather goes low-high. 2-1 upstairs. One minute to go. Clinch. Good left hook from Mayweather. Both tag the body. Straight left by McGregor. 10-9, 48-47 Mayweather, who gives a shove after the bell.

Round six: Blatant rabbit punching from McGregor, ref does NOTHING. This is pathetic. McGregor to the body, eats a straight right upstairs. Body shots by Mayweather. Straight right by Mayweather and now he’s going for it. Overhand rights. One minute in. Stinging McGregor with right hands. Body shot from McGregor. Solid little combo from McGregor. Mayweather to the body. Clinch. One minute to go. Straight right again from Mayweather. More rabbit punches. McGregor taunts but his heart’s not in it. 10-9, 58-56 Mayweather.

Round seven: McGregor staying active, but there’s nothing behind these. Clinch. McGregor to the body. Mayweather left hook, McGregor straight left. Mayweather with a long left hand, clinch. One minute in. More clinching. Straight right from Mayweather. Short left lands for Conor, then body shots. Now Mayweather chasing him, landing hard punches. Straight left. Big straight rights jack McGregor’s jaw. Mayweather thumping him with a minute to go. McGregor to the body. Mayweather still pursuing. 10-9, 68-65 Mayweather.

Round eight: The pattern is pretty well-established. McGregor fires off flurries of arm punches, then Mayweather explodes for brief stretches, lands the only meaningful punches, rinse and repeat. Decent right-left from McGregor. Both land their power hands. Stiff jabs from Mayweather, walking McGregor down. McGregor to the body. Clinch. Left cross upstairs, right hook. Hammerfist. Right hand from Mayweather. Left hand from McGregor in close. Uppercuts by Mayweather, just marching after McGregor. Hard right by Mayweather. 10-9, 78-74 Mayweather.

Round nine: McGregor backs Mayweather to the corner, punches before the ref calls a start. Combination from Mayweather. Short flurries from McGregor. Hard right hand form Mayweather, clinch. Hard right hand snaps McGregor’s jaw back. Heavy right hand forces McGregor to clinch. MAyweather wants the finish. Clinch. Big shots from Mayweather, patiently firing. McGregor is bone-tired. Big shots. Mayweather just chewing him up. Ref s keeping a close eye on it. 10-8, 88-82 Mayweather.

Round ten: McGregor still putting together arm punch flurries. Mayweather to the body and upstairs with hard punches. McGregor just holding, eats more huge shots. Right hands and McGregor’s legs aren’t there. Mayweather beating the shit out of him and there’s the finish.

Final result: Mayweather def. McGregor by TKO

Mayweather's never been in the octagon. what gets me is that both replies to my post doesn't have a f****** thing to do with what I wrote. I said nothing about either one's character nor did I mention anything concerning the dangers or validity of the sport. I merely expressed an opinion that the outcome would be different if taken place in McGregor's comfort zone where he would have the advantage of experience just as Mayweather had the same advantage in the boxing ring.

Instead of accepting that McGregor got his ass kicked, you are making up hypothetical shit to deflect attention from defeat.

I mean, you might as well write, Mayweather has no chance against McGregor at Parcheesi. If he were to meet McGregor mano-a-mano on The Real Macho turf - a Parcheesi Board - McGregor would score a Bigly Bragging-rights victory.

Horseshit. Mayweather won. McGregor lost. Deal with it.

The fight would be over as soon as the ref started it. A couple of leg kicks, followed by a takedown and some ground and pound; fight over. 15 to 30 seconds max.

NOT a Mayweather fan at all, but I have to say that at 40 it was impressive that he came back after a 2 year lay off to win the fight with a TKO. McGregor fought as hard as he could, and there's no shame in that at all. He's a MMA fighter, out of his element, and got gassed as the fight went past round 4. Now, if Mayweather went 5 rounds for 5 minutes in an Octagon with Mcgregor, who knows how things end, as McGregor would be in his element, and Mayweather usually takes a few rounds to feel out an opponent when inside a boxing ring.

Same with Mayweather, although his ears look better than McGregor's.

The both must have CTE. Neither will age well.

Such a barbaric sport.

colosseum arena blood sport with immediate death rare, but long term damage to body and organs guaranteed. I think people just like the blood letting. Savage and telling about human need for bloodletting.
