Dem senator: Trump's allies shouldn't expect pardons in Russia probe
Source: The Hill
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) is warning President Trump's allies that they shouldn't expect a pardon in the ongoing Russia investigation should there be any convictions.
The Democratic lawmaker on Saturday tweeted that targets of the investigation should still feel compelled to testify.
"Any witness counting on a Russia investigation pardon should think again," Blumenthal tweeted, linking to an earlier report from The Hill quoting Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), who said that Trump's pardon of former Sheriff Joe Arpaio was a signal to those targeted by the Justice Department.
"Trump's loyalty is limited, witnesses can still be compelled to testify, and the pardons apply only to federal crimes," he added.

(51,651 posts)he wants the transcripts regarding the Steele Dossier from Fusion GPS released to the public. Last week Rachel talked about this and Grassley said he would vote for it. Grassley is the GOP head of the Judiciary Committee and said he would release them if given permission and the Fusion GPS lawyers DID give him permission. Blumenthal has not seen the transcripts yet since they are all out on summer recess still but he is knowledgable about the info so hopefully he knows what he is talking about as far as future pardons and how they could impact Mueller's investigation.

(25,183 posts)how Blumenthal thinks he can speak for the Orange One, when he himself has been the subject of ridicule by Trump.

(2,050 posts)And what has happened, I'm thinking I'm seeing more of that recently, it's almost as if Blumenthol just said we know what you did, we 're coming for you, and there's no place to hide, and a presidential pardon isn't going to help.
I really hope that's what he meant.

(19,986 posts)Which suggests Manafort will be convicted of State crimes, obviously in New York, but if Trump appoints his replacements won't those cases be blocked ?

(5,257 posts)When you mentioned the "president" appointing replacements - replacements for whom? Just wondering what you meant there; thanks.

So Trump also asked Sessions to drop the Arpaio case? Par for the course. Happier than ever that I did not return this man's call in March. https:// twitter.com/crampell/status/901579826053738498
