Obama adviser: Trump asking to drop case against Arpaio could get him impeached
Source: The Hill
President Obamas former communications director Dan Pfeiffer blasted President Trump over a report that he had asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions to drop the federal criminal case against Sheriff Joe Arpaio, saying if the report is true, Trump could be impeached.
Asking the Attorney General to drop a case against a political ally is the kind of thing people get impeached for, Pfeiffer tweeted Saturday.
The Washington Post reported earlier Saturday that Trump had asked Sessions to drop the case against Arpaio, who was a surrogate for Trump on the campaign trail.
Trump decided that he would pardon Arpaio if the sheriff was found guilty in the federal case, after advisers warned him against dropping the charges.

(13,485 posts)a gun to the head of every GOPr in congress. They remain motionless and silent for the most part. As much as I dislike them and as much as I disagree with their politics, it's just too crazy to be sane. Even the batshit crazy evangelicals in congress can't be this insane. Is there a threat out there? Or is this really the world they want? Do they really want us all to go down with the ship? Are they fearful of a firing squad? What the hell happened to them?

(2,751 posts)No guns to their fucking head or anything. They certainly don't care about their corruption being spread and known far and wide. And they are very aware of the fact their mindless constituents do not care about anything but god, guns and fucking abortion. Oh, and of course throw in a bit of hatred for anyone with the wrong skin pigment.
The dollar is all these motherfuckers care about!

Diebold: Ion Sancho Needs Your Help!

SNIP...Ion Sancho, the Leon County, Florida Supervisor of Elections who authorized the Diebold hack test, last year, is facing a wave of retaliation from the Big Three voting machine vendors, Diebold, ES&S, and Sequoia. They refuse to sell him the equipment necessary to make Leon County compliant with the Help America Vote Act. Now the state of Florida may remove Sancho for failure to comply with HAVA.
At a Leon County Commission meeting on February 28, 2006, county staff revealed that Chuck Owen, Division Counsel for Diebold Election Systems, met with county staff behind closed doors on February 27. According to staff, Owen stated that "Diebold would sell its touch-screen voting machines to the county if, and only if, the county removed Supervisor Sancho from office."...SNIP

So any repugs who get "off point" are probably subjected to threats of job loss, and then some...

(14,500 posts)As with all things GOP, just follow the money. Some smarter heads can perhaps shine clearer light on this, but my casual observations since the 70s point to an opaque, complex web of very wealthy people that control GOP policy and group-speak - primarily via think tanks, lobbying groups, and media corporations.
In a sense, the GOP congress and state legislatures, elected minions such as tRump and even the populist support organizations such as churches and the NRA are just useful idiots to these plutocrats. Congress members dare not cross these people or demean any loyal GOPer, least they suffer the wrath of the big boys. tRump is somewhat of an outlier and I often wonder what they think of him.
Policy directives are passed down to our "public servants" and right-wing media outlets via policy letters, emails, private meetings and conferences. For a sample peek into this carefully crafted web, just look a the Wikipedia pages on the Heritage Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute. Heritage showed a 2014 revenue of nearly $100 million and AEI showed nearly $85 million in 2015.

(13,485 posts)I will point to a repeated answer to policy questions Bush II kept spilling when under pressure. He'd say, "that's up to the deciders". In context it said more than some want to admit. But I dont discuss that here. Taboo. KY... is that for the state of? I had an interesting acquaintance living in DC who had family near Campbellsville. Probably doesn't mean anything to you. Never mind.

(14,500 posts)Yep, I'm sure GWB is very intimately familiar with the Red Web, if I may give it a silly name. Even more so with GHWB. It's really a shame it's not more in the sunlight. All our Walmart dollars at work, LOL. Don't understand your taboo - maybe someday. It is KY the state, but never been to Campbellsville. Lots of beautiful country, friendly folks and good food throughout KY.

(20,777 posts)But until something DOES get him impeached, it's not worth getting too excited, frankly.
The corrupt GOP has painted themselves into a helluva corner, and they're in deep denial.
This isn't going to end quickly.
