NRA's video message to 'elites': 'We're coming for you'

ATLANTA (AP) The election of President Donald Trump and Republican control of Congress meant the National Rifle Association could probably rest easy that gun laws wouldnt change for at least four years. But the NRA has begun a campaign not against pending legislation but what it sees as liberal forces bent on undoing the progress its made and the political powerhouse is resorting to language that some believe could incite violence.
Using the hashtags #counterresistance and #clenchedfistoftruth, the NRA has put out a series of videos that announce a shot across the bow, and say the gun-rights group is coming for you and that elites ... threaten our very survival, terms that suggest opponents are enemy combatants.
The times are burning and the media elites have been caught holding the match, NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch says in one video aired on NRATV, the gun lobbys web video site, as it shows footage of people fighting police, breaking storefront glass and burning the American flag.
Later, she specifically calls out The New York Times: Weve had it with your narratives, your propaganda, your fake news. Weve had it with your constant protection of your Democrat overlords, your refusal to acknowledge any truth that upsets the fragile construct that you believe is real life. And weve had it with your tone-deaf assertion that you are in any way truth or fact-based journalism, Loesch says. Consider this the shot across your proverbial bow. ... In short? Were coming for you.

(2,050 posts)I didn't sell my guns, I haven't fired one in 20 years but they are ready to go, I thought of the possibility that one may end up in the hands of someone who would use it on another human being so I kept them.
I'm their worst nightmare, a liberal that owns guns and knows how to use them.
I have thought of joining the nra in past but it was obvious they were a little to gun-ho for me.
Now they have proven they're flat out whacko nutjobs, the dangerous ideology has Risen to the top and as far as I'm concerned they are the enemy.

(717 posts)In Brooklyn I don't feel the need for a gun but there is something about being out in the woods that makes me feel that I should have at least one and know how to use it. I really hope I can find a place to learn to shoot where I don't have to listen to NRA crap.
Nothing wrong with having a few guns, responsibly kept and used. Why these people bitch about filling out a few forms and waiting a bit I really can't understand.

(2,140 posts)I'm a life member who joined years ago, before the NRA became a wholly owned subsidiary of the lunatic right wing... you know, when it actually was about training and safety and the like.
I have thought long and hard about resigning (of course). But then I would no longer receive all the crap I get from them in the mail which would save them a lot of money. By remaining a member for the rest of my days, without paying them another cent, I cost them money that would otherwise be available to make terroristic threat videos and the like.
So, "I'm the NRA". Keep sending me magazines and other mailbox spam, you suckers.
I submit that this is an excellent excuse for continued NRA membership.

The NRA wants to sell guns.
And they are doing it in the OP by sowing panic and hatred.
The NRA took a big hit from that shooting of a congressman at a baseball park.
And Trump getting elected eased the "fear and smear" contingents that had Obama "coming for their guns.
So gun sales are slacking off, and they want to sell more.

(22,196 posts)Threating our right to free speech, and threating fellow Americans and neighbors. Really nice. What is the NRA going to do next?
Is the NRA going to ID / Tattoo everyone who's been to college, or finished high school as an elite?
Is the NRA going to ID / Tattoo everyone who's been advocating a living wage, e.g., lots of our fellow DUers and Union workers, as elites?
Is the NRA going to ID/ Tattoo everyone who's for responsible gun ownership (almost all of us vouch for this, including me, a gun owner) as elites?
Democratic overlords? Really??? This is pretty pathetic...NRA, you're reading way way too much science fiction.
NRA, cowards that you are, I am here, waiting...cowards, everyone of you. And I don't need to have guns to feel safe, so stay away, you hypocrites. The power of the pen is mightier than the sword.

next step? get the liberals scared that our fascist neighbors are planning a pogrom, so we arm up too. then we can stand on opposite sides of the political divide confidently flinging poop and waving our g-peens at each other, while lining arms makers' pockets with dosh.
