White House to brief Pentagon on transgender ban details: report
Source: The Hill
The White House is almost ready to issue guidance to the Pentagon on the implementation of President Trump's proposal to ban transgender people from serving in the military.
The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that a White House memo will direct the Defense Department on details related to Trump's intention to bar transgender people from being admitted to the military.
Under the new policy, Defense Secretary James Mattis would have to consider a service member's ability to deploy in deciding whether to remove them from the military.
Trump announced via Twitter last month that he would reinstate a ban on transgender military service that was lifted last year under former President Barack Obama.

(6,017 posts)What I don't think the President understands, or would care about if he did understand, is that hormones are a necessary part of the functioning of the human body. In particular, sex hormones don't just shape the body at puberty; they continue to perform important functions throughout life that have little to do with secondary gender characteristics. In particular they co-regulate the most basic, "first" hormone, serotonin. Which in turn regulates sleep, mood, digestion, thirst, immune, autoimmune, sensory regulation and so on. So, testosterone & estrogen are crucial to normal body functioning. And there's good evidence that the co-regulation receptors in many trans people matches their identity just like the 20 or so gender specific sites in the brain and a number of skeletal sites. That's why so many trans people exclaim that their body "feels right" or "works right" for the first time when they finally get the right hormones.
After years, their bodies no longer produce any such hormones on their own, testosterone or estrogen either because they've had surgery of some sort or their ability has simply shut down. To then deny them a prescription that a doctor has deemed medically necessary goes beyond bigotry and disrespect. It is cruel and causes actual harm.
This is apparently the goal of the President of the United States; to cause shame and medical harm to 15,000 of our American soldiers simply because the Conservative Christians in his base (and administration) don't like them.
