'Your message isn't wanted here': Boston mayor threatens white nationalists planning Saturday rally

Boston's Mayor Marty Walsh said on Thursday that right-wing “free speech” activists planning a rally in his city on Saturday have as much right to speak their mind as anyone else, but that the city will have a “zero tolerance” policy for violence.

“I didn’t want them to get a permit, quite honestly, but we also believe in free speech in our country,” Walsh told reporters, according to WCVB Channel 5.

The group planning to rally on Boston Common this Saturday is known as Boston Free Speech and is a coalition of far-right organizations. Organizers of the rally insist that they’re not affiliated with the alt-right, neo-Nazis or other groups that turned last Saturday’s “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, VA into a brutal melee that killed one and injured 20 others.

Thousands of counter-protesters are expected for Saturday’s rally. The two groups will be separated by a police barrier. Rally-goers will not be allowed to carry backpacks, signs with sticks or anything else that can be used as a weapon.

1. They should be separated with more than just a barrier.

They should have a zone/space lined with police cars between them.

2. Does zero tolerance mean the police will step in make arrests?

or not get involved like the Charlottesville police. Might be a good idea to have the state police and national guard on standby just in case.

And why do these assholes choose liberal cities for their rallies? I read they are planning for San Francisco too. It's like they deliberately want people to fight them. And they come prepared with helmets, shields, and sticks.

Any tiki torches this time?

or wear body armor that can be used as weapons

It's not like the police are going to shoot these white men to enforce it

A lot of illegal stuff happened in Charlottesville too. Assault and murder are still illegal but it still happened.

losing their web hosting and fundraising platforms and lots of other stuff. There have been many white nationalist rallies this year but the violent one is what got some consequences.

Their favorite guns will get them a felony charge in Boston and without their guns they are simply cowards.

Cowards + guns = Bully

Bully - guns = coward

Please call it like you see it! They are using free speech as a divisive measure. We cannot let them keep getting away with this!

Allowing free speech to people that want to promote a world where free speech is not tolerated is self destructive.

Can anyone anywhere put up a burning cross? Then why let them carry around a Nazi Flag? Fuck that shit!

They say the most vile, awful, uncensored, unfiltered bullshit and they innocently try to play it off like "oh it's free speech, we can say this!". If you play that game, you're walking a dangerously thin line of what's acceptable in society, and you'll lose that game every time. Yeah you have a right to free speech in this country, but it's a privilege as much as it is a right. We have unwritten rules in society that basically say "don't be a dick". But the people who are playing the free speech card thinking it gives them a right to be a racist and sexist asshole with no consequences are destroying that unwritten rule, and it absolutely is counter productive to the argument.
