CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- The mother of a woman who was killed while protesting a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, says she won't talk to President Donald Trump because of comments he made after her daughter's death.
Speaking Friday on ABC's "Good Morning America," Susan Bro said she initially missed the first few calls to her from the White House. But she now says she won't talk to the president after a news conference in which Trump equated violence by white supremacists at the rally with violence by those protesting the rally.
Bro's daughter, 32-year-old Heather Heyer, was killed and 19 others were injured when a driver rammed a car into a crowd of demonstrators last Saturday. An Ohio man, James Alex Fields Jr., has been arrested and charged with murder and other offenses.

(CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.) -- The mother of Heather Heyer, the woman killed Saturday when a car rammed into a crowd of counterprotesters at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, said she has "no interest" in speaking with President Donald Trump in the wake of her daughter's death.
"I understand that President Trump wants to speak with me; I've heard from his press secretary and a few other people. And it's not that I'm trying to be calloused. It's that I have no interest in speaking to politicians just to hear them say, 'I'm sorry,'" Susan Bro said in an interview Thursday with ABC News. "If I felt like that's all they wanted to say, that would be different, but I feel like I'm wanted to be used for political agendas and I'm resistant to that."
Bro thanked Trump in a statement on Monday for "those words of comfort and for denouncing those who promote violence and hatred," but said on Friday in an interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America that her opinion changed after she had time to watch news coverage of the Charlottesville protests after laying her 32-year-old daughter to rest on Wednesday.
"I hadnt really watched the news until last night, and Im not talking to the president now, after what he said," Bro said, adding that she "saw an actual clip of him at a press conference equating the protesters" with "the KKK and the white supremacists."

She has too much class to state what I would if I were in her sad position.
Need it be said that I truly admire Susan Bro and wish I had her strength of character?

I totally support this mother for not wanting to talk to someone who refused to acknowledge the sacrifice of her daughter and of their family as a whole.

(5,101 posts)She is an admirable woman, she suffers the worse loss it can be for a parent. An unnecessary loss due to stupidity and hatred.
And yet she managed to deliver an awsome message.
She certainly don't need in addition, to undergo the fakident's snivelling and lies.
He maybe not killed her daughter by his hand, but morally, he is as guilty as charged.

(1,204 posts)His rhetoric helped create the environment that killed her daughter. Not to mention he would just exploit such conversations for his own gain, or at least attempt to do so. I think he already tried that, right?
