Rabbi That Oversaw Ivanka Trump's Conversion to Judaism Slams Trump on Charlottesville Response
Source: NY Mag
The rabbi that oversaw Ivanka Trumps conversion to Judaism has released a letter to the congregation of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trumps longtime synagogue condemning President Trumps widely criticized statements about the violent protests in Charlottesville.
In a letter sent to members of Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun this evening, Rabbi Emeritus Haskel Lookstein (who oversaw Ivankas conversion), along with his successors Rabbi Chaim Steinmetz and Rabbi Elie Weinstock, said, We are appalled by this resurgence of bigotry and antisemitism, and the renewed vigor of the neo-Nazis, KKK, and alt-right.
The letter went on: While we avoid politics, we are deeply troubled by the moral equivalency and equivocation President Trump has offered in his response to this act of violence.
Lookstein was close enough to the Trump family that last year he was invited to speak to the Republican National Convention. He initially planned to give an invocation but later dropped out after outcry from the Modern Orthodox community and other groups.

(90,189 posts)...their reticence. Historically the community has been heavily involved in civil rights for all and social justice for all. Many American Jews have already loudly objected to Trump over the past many months, including prominent Neocons from the Bush Administration. Even Eric Cantor spoke out today, and I have little respect for him since he's a Republican.
Jews know fascists and Nazis when they see them. Too many relatives never made it even part way through WWII.
Your friend's comment sounds ... odd, focusing as it does on ... money.

(53,823 posts)Frankly, it is starting to really piss me off. I don't know where some people get the idea, other than Christian privilege, that they can comment on how Jews should or shouldn't be reacting to the situation, and those focusing on the RW Jews always bring up money, and the fact that is such an engrained stereotype and supposedly the left isn't about that, but rather supporting Jews, I find it disheartening and nothing more than an example on how deep anti-Semitism runs, including on our side. Why is it minorities always have to account for bad actors from our tribes?! Do people not realize there are "bad" people from every minority group?!

Breitbart had to be told by Trump to cut back on criticizing Jared.

That rabbi is a quack, and should be shunned.
