Breitbart's war on McMaster bites Bannon
Source: Politico
The conservative news site Breitbart has waged a nonstop campaign against national security adviser H.R. McMaster, but so far it seems to have done the most damage to someone else: Steve Bannon.

The attacks on McMaster have put Bannon in an especially awkward position with his new boss, retired Marine general John Kelly, who has been increasingly defensive of McMaster, a longtime friend and fellow general, according to interviews with 10 administration officials and people close to the White House. McMaster, who pushed Bannon off the National Security Council principals committee, hasnt spoken to Bannon in weeks, one senior administration official said.

Bannon has grown more isolated without his ally Priebus in the West Wing. He remained in Washington this week while the president and other top staff have decamped to the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., and spends his days either holed up in his office or attending meetings. He avoids openly scuffling with his colleagues, as he often did in the past, and has moved to align himself with Kelly, telling allies inside and outside the White House that the arrival of the former secretary of Homeland Security was a win for Trumps nationalist supporters.

Two aides suggested that the stories are useful for Bannon since they create an echo chamber that is often picked up by Fox News, creating a narrative for Trump, who is easily influenced by what he sees on T.V. They also show that Bannon retains influence independent of Trump. If they ever want to let him go they can see how dangerous he is from the outside, said an outside adviser to the White House who is close to Bannon.

According to the article, Bannin has also been "cut out of meetings on tax reform in July, after his proposal to raise taxes on the wealthy appeared in the press, and again when his idea to hire contractors in Afghanistan rather than expanding troop levels got publicity."

(1,257 posts)Oh my God, I am in shock.
I seriously despise that bloated, racist zealot gin monkey, and I am feeling a little ill that I would agree with anything that came out of his cancerous pie hole.
Taxes surely should be raised on the 1%. They should pay the same percentage as the rest of the residents of the US.
Between their preferential tax brackets, and all of the loopholes and exemptions they get away with, it would only make sense.
It is well known that so called "trickle down economics" is a farce, and does nothing for the economy, or social well being of the voters in this country.
As such, we can pretty much count on the fact that nothing will change, except taxes being reduced for the greedy few.
But, I and many others would surely like to see the backside of Bannon!
(Not literally of course.... I think I threw up in my mouth a little)

(3,045 posts)it was a tax increase on income not wealth. Many of the 1%ers don't take in much actual income. They just have wealth. So it might not have been that effective.
Also, he's trying to create chaos. Tax on the wealthy is a delicious carrot for a class war which creates chaos. He wants the whole system torn down and rebuilt but not rebuilt into anything anyone who isn't part of the alt-right would want to see.

(24,775 posts)Blightbart is a radical reactionary, anti-American rag whose "news folks" advocate the overthrow of democracy. In other words, they're neofascist, not conservative (which means preservation of the status quo).
