59% of Americans think Trump's presidency has been a failure

Source: Axios

Most Americans (59%) believe Donald Trump's presidency thus far has been a failure, while 36% say it has been a success according to a new CNN poll to mark his 200th day in office. 62% have less confidence in him now than when he took office.

Other findings...

Trust: 24% of Americans say they can trust all or most of the information coming out of the White House, while 30% say they believe nothing at all.

Base: Strong approval among Republicans has dropped from 73% in February to 59% now.

Reputation: 30% say they admire Trump and 34% say they're proud to have him as president, while 55% say he's lowered the stature of his office.

CNN article on the poll here:

http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/07/politics/poll-trump-approval-down-amid-distrust/index.html

Six months into his presidency, Donald Trump's overall approval rating stands at its lowest point in CNN polling, while three-quarters of Americans say they can't trust most of what they hear from the White House.

Overall, 38% say they approve of Trump's handling of the presidency, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS, with 56% saying they disapprove. Just one other newly-elected president has held an approval rating below 50% at this point in his presidency since modern polling began: Bill Clinton, whose approval rating stood at 44% at this point in 1993.

Enthusiasm breaks against Trump by a 2-to-1 margin. Nearly half in the new poll say they strongly disapprove of Trump's handling of the job (47%), while just a quarter say they feel strongly positive about Trump's performance (24%).

Those numbers have soured in recent months, particularly among Trump's core supporters. Among Republicans, strong approval has dropped from 73% in February to 59% now. Among whites who do not have college degrees, a core component of Trump's base, just 35% strongly approve, down 12 points since February. At the same time, strong disapproval among Democrats has held steady around 80%.

Other than that not much difference.

IMO the best scenario is for the 45* clown show to keep going until we can re-take at least one house of Congress.

If Trump resigns ahead of the exploding scandal, I think the media attention would focus on Pence and the horrible policies. Trump sucks up the media attention so they pass things (like confirming judges) without much notice. That might get more notice under Pence/

...as awful as it is, better to keep Flat-EEG-but-Fat-But in place.

Puzzleheaded as he is and with any credibility left, I don't think he will do more that he did, in other words : nothing.

It is painful but the damages are limited, relatively easy to solve later.

With Pence, it could be much more trickier.

that the media would adequately expose and inform the American people about pence's crackpottery, but I doubt it. They did a horrible job with dump, chimpy, raygun, et al. Soft-pedal their extremist views and bad policy plans while propping them up to appear presidential. Not one of them was truly adequate for the job.

Why would they do any better with pence?

Pence would be characterized as a normal, sensible Republican. He looks and acts like a Very Serious Person compared to wild man Trump. The media would give Pence cover in this way. The media is usually not very good at actually discussing policies and most people don't pay attention to policy but are more likely to judge politicians based on how well they are doing (are you better off under this president than the last?) and vague things like personality (I want to have a beer with George W. Bush) so I worry that you are right, the media would give Pence a pass. He would certainly seem like an improvement over Trump although their policies would likely be similar and Pence might even be more capable at getting legislation passed.

Very intelligent analysis and I fear you are correct--punce fits the "very serious man" stereotype at first glance and can play the role. The little problem is that he's an extremist wacko who came right out and said he's an Xtian before American. He wants a theocracy and no doubt thinks he's dog's appointed servant sent to bring it about. And, at the same time and *how conveniently*, he's a koch stooge who would simultaneously advance the agenda of the billionaires. So, two strikes out but we will grow old waiting for the media to do any sort of accurate expose of his extremist views.

Same thing with Lyin' Ryan--the media by and large has fawned over him and anointed him as a serious policy wonk rather than a deluded acolyte of wacko Ayn Rand. And those are likely to be the puke presidential choices in 2020 if dump has imploded by then.

But picking between Trump and Pence is like being involuntarily hoisted up 60 feet in the air by a crane and asked whether we prefer to be dropped into a pool of boiling acid or onto a concrete pad next to it. Both options suck, but one is less painful than the other

Right-wing authoritarianism (RWA) is a personality and ideological variable studied in political, social, and personality psychology. Right-wing authoritarians are people who have a high degree of willingness to submit to authorities they perceive as established and legitimate, who adhere to societal conventions and norms, and who are hostile and punitive in their attitudes towards people who don't adhere to them. They value uniformity and are in favour of using group authority, including coercion, to achieve it.

If Satan himself was told to them by talk radio and Fox News that he was an OK leader, they would follow him without a second thought.

Need I say more? A large chunk of the extreme Christian right will continue to cling to tRUMP since it is the first time in a while that they had somewhat of a voice...unfortunately they are doing far more damage to themselves by doing so, choosing to believing a morally bankrupt human being, then everyday, common-sense humans (the rest of us normal Americans), and quoting the scriptures to justify it. When will they realize that tRUMP is playing them?

They actually believe end times are here, and thus, their support of tRUMP. They have been wrong numerous times before, as in 1844, when they insisted end times were coming, as well as the year 2000 (and other years I haven't mentioned). History will prove me right again and again of their hypocrisy, and my voice will not be silent against this idiotic methodologies. As biblical sources mention, no one will know the date of the 2nd coming, no one, and could be 1000s of years into the future, or never. Only God knows.

The reason I speak now, is that people lives were seriously damaged by these idiots, in 1844 etc. (sold all of their processions, left their jobs, etc.) all in the name of religion. Of course if one wants to do so, that's the American way, to each his/her own, but we must guard against these Jim Jones types, and protect our loved ones from falling into these traps.

This support of tRUMP will come back to bite them in spades later...when truly rational thought prevails again versus religious dogma/spittle.
