Twitter suspends army of fake accounts after Trump thanks propaganda bot for supporting him

Twitter suspended a number of fake accounts over the weekend that were using false names to spread pro-Trump propaganda.

In a tweet on Saturday, President Donald Trump expressed thanks to Twitter user @Protrump45, an account that posted exclusively postitive memes about the president. But the woman whose name was linked to the account told Heavy that her identity was stolen and that she planned to file a police report. The victim asserted that her identity was used to sell pro-Trump merchandise.

Although “Nicole Mincey” was the name displayed on the Twitter page, it was not the name used to create the account. The real name of the victim has been withheld to protect her privacy.

The @Protrump45 account also linked to the website Protrump45.com which specialized in Trump propaganda. All of the articles on the website were posted by other Twitter users, which also turned out to be fakes.

Facebook suspends a lot of accounts for noncompliance if they ask. It gives them credibility in a world where a background check will eventually include a lifetime of social media activity.

And the children usually set up a fake account when they set up the real one. They even have a name for it, a FInsta account.

By the way, the article is naive. Children use it to send pics of sex and drugs a lot of the time, meanwhile letting the adults see the clean account.

It's not clear how we can tell when our identities are being used for these bots. Anyone know the answer?

18. I've had mine used for product advertisements

but Twitter software caught them logging in from accounts far away and signed me off.
All I had to do was login again and everything was back to normal.

And these ARMIES of bots are all over message boards all over the internet ... #MAGA,
Trump is Great ... they think they are influencing public opinion, but mostly they support
one another in their delusions of the Chief Delusion.

They're taking baby steps, but they need to do more.

Remember there's a conflict of interest keeping them from totally fixing the problem because it helps their stock if it looks like there are millions more users than there are. Consequences (i.e., election interference) be damned.

I respond to all gung ho Trump tweets with a message telling the bot to go back to Moscow or something of the sort. I've seen plenty of people pointing out what twitter-ers are bots and it is good for others to learn how to spot them

28. The fake accounts are a big part of the Trumpy Propaganda machine,

which is also part of the GOP/Russia Propaganda machine. They all benefited from the lies.

They aren't gone. They'll resurface again, using other identities. Their success is too good to allow a suspension to get the best of them.
