Senate blocks Trump from making recess appointments over break
Source: The Hill
The Senate blocked President Trump from being able to make recess appointments on Thursday as lawmakers leave Washington for their summer break.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), doing wrap up for the entire Senate, locked in nine "pro-forma" sessions brief meetings that normally last roughly a minute.
The move, which requires the agreement of every senator, means the Senate will be in session every three business days throughout the August recess.
The Senate left D.C. on Thursday evening with most lawmakers not expected to return to Washington until after Labor Day.

(32,854 posts)Why should he care about the Senate's problems?

(56,829 posts)that he would fire Jeff Sessions and replace him with Ghouliani as a recess appointment, who would then fire Mueller for Trump.

(32,854 posts)As an after-thought, Giuliani would have been a problem for Trump.
Oh sure, he'll pass the loyalty sniff-test but he's smart enough to realize that he'd have to recuse himself from the Russia Investigation. I'm pretty sure he already told Trump the same, because it was in the papers a few weeks ago.
So Cheeto figured out there was no advantage in firing Sessions and replacing him with Giuliani, so he must be listening to his lawyers finally. We'll see.

They apparently will agree on a vacation where they don't have to worry about returning to find Alex Jones as Secretary of State. The GOP obviously doesn't trust him.

(19,204 posts)Gorsuch WAY BACK THEN? That was a little more than five months ago, but in terms of 'Trump time' it might as well have been light years. That was WAY BACK when Republican Senators were still giving Trump the benefit of the doubt, and sticking up for him. My, have things changed since then, huh?
It's hard to believe so much Trump horse shit has transpired in that short time period. It feels like years have passed since Russia elected Trump President.

(37,648 posts)that he wouldn't make a recess appt, later that year. So they didn't have to do anything. Obama told them he wouldn't do that.
I vaguely recall that, now. I wondered why he was being so nice, when they were being so obstructionist and told him to his face he would never make an appt to the S Ct before the end of the year.
