GOP House member calls on Mueller to resign
Source: The Hill
House Judiciary Committee member Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) is calling on Robert Mueller, special counsel for the Department of Justices Russia investigation, to resign.
Franks claims Mueller is violating a law governing the special counsel that prohibits him from serving if he has a conflict of interest, which includes a personal relationship with any person substantially involved in the conduct that is the subject of the investigation or prosecution.
Franks cited a Fox News report from May that cast Mueller and former FBI Director James Comey as longtime allies. Mueller served as the FBI Director when Comey was the Deputy Attorney General in 2003. The Russia investigation has expanded to include possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russia and the presidents decision to fire the FBI director.
Bob Mueller is in clear violation of federal code and must resign to maintain the integrity of the investigation into alleged Russian ties, Franks said in a statement.

The latest disclosures about Trump personally drafting his son's lies must be putting the fire Mueller scheme into over drive.

(45,806 posts)House members who promote ideas make headlines and people learn who they are. The jacka**es who just collect a paycheck are never heard from so the only people how know them are those in their districts. With this kind of idea we all KNOW why he keeps quiet!

(19,204 posts)Just as the GOP pendulum is swinging the OTHER way, Franks decides to begin his "fire Mueller" crusade. Republican Representatives and Senators are finally starting to see what a liability Trump is becoming, what a chaotic mess he's making of our system of government. THIS is when Franks "makes his move" for history?
What an idiot. But I've said that about SO MANY Republican Congressmen, that insult is ringing pretty hollow lately.

(129,935 posts)the entire TFEE "needs to resign" given the "conflict of interest" of nepotism and refusal to divest their financial holdings (which goes for most if not all of the current department heads).

(46,776 posts)This is so stupid. They are overreaching. A conflict of interest occurs when you're representing two clients and you don't tell one of the clients about your conflict. A conflict occurs when you have outside business interests that your decisions can impact.
This is just another sorry ass, lame attempt from a crusty autocrat to appeal to their shallow base, also known as the 36, because the rest of us aren't buying it.

(24,259 posts)There's no 'conflict' just because they occasionally worked together on cases 14 YEARS ago. Of course they were "allies" back then you dumb cluck. Do you even know what that word truly means? They're supposed to, by definition, "combine or unite a resource or commodity with (another) for mutual benefit". Ya kno' like idealistically all people should for the betterment of our planet & all her residents.

(4,742 posts)I replaced a Senior Manager of a company who I had known for years. He was well respected and when he retired I replaced him. We were friendly with each other, we were allies in the transition, we still talk occasionally after two years. But we aren't "friends" who hang out, drink together, travel together, etc.
You can work closely with someone and not have a conflict of interest. And this asshole Rep Franks knows this. Just red meat for his knuckledraggers.

A conflict of interest which includes ...a personal relationship with any person substantially involved in the conduct that is the subject of the investigation or prosecution.
Comey is not the subject of the investigation. Senator.
