Pro-Ron Paul delegates challenged in Maine

Source: AP

Members of Maine's Republican Party have filed a challenge to a pro-Ron Paul slate of delegates from Maine who were elected to attend next month's Republican National Convention.

Peter Cianchette, a prominent Republican leader, and Janet Martens Staples, a Maine representative on the Republican National Committee, filed the challenge to 14 pro-Paul delegates and alternates on Saturday, the last day they could be challenged.

A letter signed by Cianchette and sent to the counsel for the RNC in Washington claims there were illegal votes at May's state Republican Convention, that a quorum wasn't present when votes for delegates were case, and that convention officials violated party and parliamentary rules, according to the Bangor Daily News.

Staples said the integrity of the process is at stake.

2. It appears the GOP is going to show 'deference' to Ron Paul and is accomodating him this year:

I'd read that he was not going to speak at the convention, but USA Today says he will. See details at link:

From the safety of Mom & Dad's basement, freepers type their approval for Mitt's Iran sabre rattling

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=1043157

Even though their fearless leader promised to ZOT all who dared to cross the line to Romney, there's something in the wind over there... Fortunately, we have stalwarts who are rough enough to stand the wind (stench) at Freeperville

5. Paulbots aren't freepers.

Freepers are mostly neocons, and love shitting on foreign countries. Paulbots are non-interventionists or isolationists. They want nothing whatsoever to do with Iran.

And it's fun to get the paulbots and neocons in the same room, sit back, and watch them 'debate' foreign policy.

6. True they have foreign policy and pot differences, but they are the same as the rest of the GOP

On women's rights, welfare, social security, health care, state's rights, civil rights, gays and guns. And God for the most part. Scratch the surface and they're all GOP.

The fact that Paul is running in the same party with Ryan, Walker.. and that disgraceful son of his shows they are not ever going to be anyone I would vote for. There are more CT among the Paulbots than neo-cons, obviously, they are Alex Jones fans and they and the rest of them buy all that stuff.

When people only defend them for their isolationist or pot stance, they're missing the broader picture of how much Ron Paul and his followers truly suck.

7. I've seen some of them stand up for birth control and abortion

as many of them don't see a fertilized ovum as a person, and therefore, there is no conflict of rights between the mother and the fetus, BUT I have also seen some of them go batshit over abortion. So, mixed bag there.

But as a package, they are a disaster for social policy. That 'no safety nets' bullshit will never fly.

That this kind of tactics are exactly the kind of thing that could provoke Paul into an independent campaign in the fall.

Remember, the Old Guy has nuthin' to lose.

He's an egomaniac who wants attention. Now he gets it. He'd be irrelevant if he left the party. He'd never be elected to anything again, and he'd get zero media coverage. It will never happen.

10. Ron Paul has this attention because he stands for things.

Some things we like, many things we don't like.

He opposes the wars the Republicans will get us in. We can't be the world policeman.

He wants to keep government out of peoples' bedrooms; Republicans believe different.

I believe in the need for a Single Payer National Health System. Ron Paul does not.

I object when he thinks we can't use government to help the poor and middle class.
We are government after all. We help the rich corporations; why not the middle class?

On reflection, we aren't the government. We don't have the money to buy the politicians.

The question does he think he can advance his views if he runs as a third party candidate.

Do I believe Ron Paul will run as a third party candidate? That is something I don't know.
My gut instinct is he won't run as a third party candidate. He will see it as a waste of time.

I believe the Republicans will treat him and his views the same either way.
Views the Republicans like they will continue to like. Those they don't, they won't.

Will Ron Paul support Romney in the general election? Ron Paul may pay lip service.
I expect a wink and a nod from him and the Ron Paul supporters will go their own way.

He already gave up his Congressional seat.

And there's no way in hell Mittens would appoint him to anything.
