Trump administration to review dozens of U.S. national monuments
Source: Reuters
U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday will order a review of national monuments created over the past 20 years with an aim toward rescinding or resizing some of them - part of a broader push to reopen areas to drilling, mining and other development.
The move comes as Trump seeks to reverse a slew of environmental protections ushered in by former President Barack Obama that he said were hobbling economic growth - an agenda that is cheering industry but enraging conservationists.
Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke told reporters on Tuesday Trump's executive order would require him to conduct the review of around 30 national monuments and recommend which designations should be lifted or resized over the coming months. He said he would seek feedback from Congressional delegations, governors and local stakeholders before making his recommendations.
"I am not going to predispose what the outcome is going to be," Zinke said. Rescinding or altering a national monument designation would be new ground for the government, he said.

Trump will upset anything and everything he encounters.
This is about control and dominance.
Politically dictatorship is at the roots.

THis is THEFT.
He's trying to do this below the radar, making it into a private property issue
rather than a matter of public lands.

I doubt most of them will ever make it to a vote. That's just IMO.

Trump's intent is clear. We should be writing our Senators and Congressmen
demanding venues for the input of the PUBLIC on the disposition of our
public lands. No midnight transfers behind closed doors.

(1,907 posts)Should look at the monuments and statues put up after the civil war. Like the ones in New Orleans. I bet him and gorka were pissed they took that down.

(5,754 posts)thousands died on both sides, and we should remember that. Should they take down the Vietnam memorial because we lost? There is a cemetery with over 3000 Confederate graves near where I live. Should we dig it up?

(20,868 posts)There were more losses in the Civil War than any other "war" that the USA has ever been involved. Losses were said to be ~850,000 persons. Where do we begin to dig? Under the nearest tree?
Bring it on again eh?

(1,907 posts)The one yesterday dedication chiseled in to it even said it was dedicated to White Supremacy. That is not acceptable to me. Also it was put up in 1891 dedicated not to the civil war but to armed coup attempt 2 years after the civil war was over to seize New Orleans.
Here is a pic of the one they took down.

These are monuments not graves. It's a strawman argument to equate the two.

Most of them are not statues. There are no national monuments in New Orleans.

NEVER has the US had a government SO destructive to this country, its natural resources and monuments and its people.
