Entire U.S. Senate to go to White House for North Korea briefing

Source: Reuters

Top Trump administration officials will hold a rare briefing on Wednesday at the White House for the entire U.S. Senate on the situation in North Korea, senior Senate aides said on Monday.

All 100 senators have been asked to the White House for the briefing by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the aides said.

While top administration officials routinely travel to Capitol Hill to address members of Congress on foreign policy and national security matters, it is unusual for the entire 100-member Senate to go to such an event at the White House, and for those four top officials to be involved.

U.S. officials have expressed mounting concern over North Korea's nuclear and missile tests, and its threats to attack the United States and its Asian allies.

This development sounds ominous. When was the last time all 100 Senators were summoned
to the White House? Did they do it for the financial crisis in September 2008? I don't recall it.

This sounds to me as much like sharing the blame as informing in a timely manner.

With both China and Russia sending their military to the border and not just defensive equipment, but offensive, such as tanks as well.

Did the fat boy cross the line when he had his brother assassinated? He was China's ace in the hole in case Un screwed up too much. Russia and China could be intervening so the US doesn't. And there has been an uptick about a united Korea with a demilitarized peninsula.

It is also a tool to frighten everyone and keep them off balance.

It is a way to show how important he is. He tried to arrange a luncheon with the Supreme Court justices and it fell through.

The king wants to meet with everyone and show them who is boss.

He has nothing to show for his first 100 days, so he does this to prove he is doing something.

that the last little police action we had in Korea, we couldn't wait to settle for peace.

Now, how does Trump plan to sell this mess to South Korea, Japan, and where-else?

But, he did promise lots of jobs... there will be a shitload if we go to war with Korea... ground-war, Nuclear-war or whatever... but maybe this is how Trump plans to be president for life...get us in a never-ending war. For sure, the miners that he promised jobs will be employed.

He just needs to work on his lies about why this is now necessary...and how he worked for peace...and then because of Obama we are at war.

my opinion.

He pulls an insane stunt before then, and then trys to get support.

Easier to ask for forgiveness than to get permission.

Who needs a congress anyway?

Just give a nice briefing to keep up appearances while it's still necessary.

Later on he won't have to bother.

and now all of a sudden we're plunged into a ginned-up crisis? Oh yeah, because now there's an idiot in the White House.

I also buy into the theory that he's trying to terrify Congress and the American public. Bullying--it's what he knows.
