New Video Reveals United Passenger Being Far from 'Belligerent'

Well, Dr. David Daos eventual lawsuit against United Airlines just got a little easier. Video footage posted on Mashable shows that the passenger was not disruptive and belligerent, as company CEO Oscar Munoz initially described him.
In the video, Dr. Dao replied to a law enforcement officer, I am a physician. I have to work tomorrow. However, he is not shouting and causing a scene.
The tone in his voice did get louder seconds later when he emphasized that he was not going. Dr. Dao continued to talk normally with the officer until the video cuts out before the now-infamous dragging started.
Watch the video above, which was shot by passenger Joya Griffin Cummings.

(92,523 posts)common sense and decency, they would settle this out of court, immediately change the practice of over-booking, and apologize

(26,361 posts)The real test however will be the contract thats part of the airline ticket and what the varies state and or federal laws say but my bet is they will offer him a settlement with a clause that he has to keep quiet.

(109,025 posts)(if begrudgingly) but he refused to leave his seat and was dragged off. Then he ran back in his dazed state, blood dripping from his face, saying "just kill me."
If you have read an entirely different story, please provide the link.

(51,801 posts)Dao was not being belligerent when he was forceably removed from his seat. He was forceably removed after being seated, when he was yanked out of his seat so violently that his face hit the armrest, causing the bleeding. That is why he was already bloodied and disoriented (they gave him a concussion) in the videos that show him running back on the plane.
Airlines should not bump people off planes ONCE SEATED (something United said after this incident that it will never do again). It was United that was being belligerent. United could have flown the 4 crew members on another airline if there was no room on that plane. Or they could have sweetened the deal offered to $1,600 in CASH instead of the hard to use $800 vouchers they offered (which is why only 15% of passengers ever actually use them). They just tried to do it on the cheap without fully compensating people for the inconvenience. And they could have done all this BEGORE boarding the plane.
Again, where did you get your version of the story? Link please.

(53,978 posts)He was a paid passenger who was allowed to board and was seated.
The airline randomly selected him and three others by computer to be "re-accommodated" (that's full of shit United Airline speak), so that 4 airline employees could have their seats.
The doctor refused as he'd been traveling 24 hours with multiple layovers/delays. They then dragged him off.
The story is pretty well known nationally, where did you entirely different account come from?

(16,955 posts)he wasn't paying attention to how to buckle the seat belt and deploy the oxygen mask, and had NO idea he'd need a flotation device!
(that will be United's next excuse - but THEY WERE WRONG!)

(58,785 posts)and something else inappropriate in a toss-away end clearly meant to sway opinion away from him. Had me jumping up and down, but sadly, he can't sue NBC for that.
We could lift NBC's license for failure to fulfill its duty under the law. Wouldn't that be something!? We really should

(1,907 posts)First one shows him in his seat not being belligerent, second one shows him being beaten up, third one shows him coming back on the plane dazed from being beat up. Just wondering how did they get him off after that? Were they able to talk him out or was it another drag out?

(21,506 posts)I have been bumped before but only after I was offered compensation. I could have refused but was not in a hurry so I took the deal.
What really makes me scratch my head with this is why was he singled out. Was there really no one willing to take a deal to get off?

(11,348 posts)I've been bumped and got about 3x the price of my ticket, cut me a check right there.
They offer 2-5 grand and someone will get up.
They bumped three of us and we were the last three to check-in, that was with US Airways though. The other two did not get reimbursed like I did. They threw a huge fit and stomped off. The gate attendant after they left gave me the paperwork on my rights and circled the part that said how much money I should be entitled to. Helped me out since I didn't give them as hard of a time as the other two people.
She said "Get the cash, don't take the voucher".
I just don't understand how this man was singled out and forced off. Something about this just does not compute for me.
