Wisconsin Republican Senator Believes Voter ID Will Help Romney ‘In A Close Race’
Source: Think Progress
In an interview with ThinkProgress on Sunday, the number-two Republican senator argued that voter ID could be a boon for Republicans electoral prospects if the controversial law, which was recently blocked in state court, is reinstated in time for the November election. Insofar as there are inappropriate things, people who vote inappropriately are more likely to vote Democrat, argued Grothman.
KEYES: If it were upheld and in place in time for the November election, do you think polls have shown a pretty razor-thin margin do you think it might ultimately help Romneys campaign here in the state?
GROTHMAN: Yes. Right. I think we believe that insofar as there are inappropriate things, people who vote inappropriately are more likely to vote Democrat.
KEYES: So if these protections are in place of voter ID, that might ultimately help him in a close race?
GROTHMAN: Right. I think if people cheat, we believe the people who cheat are more likely to vote against us.

(27,460 posts)How does one vote "inappropriately?"
There is so little evidence of voter fraud but these GOP asshats keep pushing that meme that voter fraud is a huge problem. It isn't.

(31,464 posts)Happens all the time. Poll workers never spot this ruse...they just allow Mr. Mouse go ahead and vote, even though his address doesn't show up on their voter logs.
These fucking people are fucking STUPID. "The people who vote inappropriately are Democrats." Fuck you you fucking stupid fuck!
Oh...was that too harsh? Sorry.

(3,860 posts)Usually shooting or stabbing victims, they knew they couldn't be refused treatment for not having insurance or ID so they'd give obvious cartoon names to remain anonymous. "Mickey Mouse" wouldn't be accepted though because "Mickey" is just a nickname and most couldn't figure out that his proper name would be "Michael", so they switched to Donald.
The ones with real chutzpah identified themselves as "Bullwinkle J. Moose".

I thought it was sort of funny.

(31,464 posts)In their eyes, it is "inappropriate" to vote for a Democrat.
Of course, I think it is "heinous" to vote for a Republican, but it's just semantics at that point.

(26,351 posts)Alot of republicans in office would gleefully cut every social program while boosting spending on defense and laugh at the thought of the poor, elderly or disabled being homeless and winding up dead in the streets.
While most democrats would atleast fight somewhat to prevent such cuts which imo is a huge difference between the two.

(15,386 posts)but the Democratic Party has never had a concerted effort designed to deny Republicans the right to vote
at least not since the 1950's Dixiecrats who all ended up in the open arms of the Repukes.
Sometimes I think it's going to take a revolution. For starters, I say that if Romney wins the Presidency, the response from America ought to be a "General Strike".

(9,992 posts)"inappropriately" in the 2010 MA election.
"Voter fraud" is not widespread. I'm beginning to think it's a privilege reserved for the 1% like Romney and Anne Coulter.

(38,458 posts)There is no cheating on voting. Republicans want those voters to pay to vote.
Many cannot afford to pay, or buy an ID, or even get to the place where IDs are presented
or get the credentials for the fuck ass ID..
IDs are a form of poll tax. remember them? I do
OH AND POLL TAXES ARE ILLEGAL....REMEMBER THAT TOO.

(59,510 posts)He voted in the MA special election - presumably for Scott Brown - even though he had sold his Belmont MA house significantly before the election. Although he owned many elegant homes - in Utah, California, and New Hampshire, when pressed, he said he lived in his son's basement in Belmont, Massachusetts!
Now, I could understand a poor or middle income Senator or Congressmen claiming such a thing for their residence in the state - if that was where they really stayed. It is very hard to believe that Romney, who had no job tying him down really spent much time - if any - in his sin's basement.
" Insofar as there are inappropriate things, people who vote inappropriately are more likely to vote Democrat,
Their Presidential candidate most likely voted illegally.

(20,450 posts)I've stated this many times, but if the Republican Party is so confident that the American people agree with their views and support their policies, then there would be no need to engage in these egregious acts to suppress votes.
Why not allow the American people to speak through their votes? And without going through this rigor to suppress them?
Answer: Perhaps the GOP aren't confident at all that the American people--if they truly knew the real reasons and motives behind Republican rhetoric--would not support the candidates or their policies.
