Team Obama keeps tweaking Romney on "retroactively" retiring
Source: USA Today
The latest tweak by Team Obama is a web video of man-on-the-street interviews asking people what they think it means to "retroactively retire," the phraseology that Romney campaign strategist Ed Gillespie used to explain why Romney was listed as the sole owner of Bain Capital in company filings during a period when the former Massachusetts governor said he was not active with the private equity firm.
The first couple of interviewees seem puzzled by the term. A third man suggests that perhaps it means you're retired bit working. And then finally, the fourth interviewee, zeros in on the Team Obama message.
"He retired himself before something terrible he did happened," the fourth interviewee says. "You know something bad happens and you say, 'Oh, that shouldn't have happened. Yeah, I'm going to go back and say I wasn't there.'"
The video then goes on to list two Bain companies that outsourced jobs overseas, and three that went bankrupt between 1999-2001. Romney has said took a leave of absence in February 1999 to run the Salt Lake City Olympics, but he never returned to the firm.

(424 posts)We need a video commercial just like this that remind Americans of Republican obstruction to many of Obama's job bills. Even friends I know follow politics closely (may be not close enough) are not aware of the American Jobs Act that President Obama sent the Republican congress and that the Republicans intentionally blocked from coming to the floor of Congress for a vote. Most people think Obama's jobs plans were implemented. It is really important to remind voters that Republicans are blocking many jobs bills the President sent them to act on that would have invested in infrastructure, education, and technology that would have gotten millions of people working instead of collecting unemployment. I think Pres Obama's team is failing to inform and repeatedly remind the American public of one important thing regarding the economy and that is why Mitt is even close to the Pres in the latest polls. Democrats and the Obama team specifically need to remind the public of the many jobs bills Obama has sent to Congress that Republicans have on purpose decided not to bring for a vote because they fear that those Obama proposals would create millions of jobs. Unemployment rate would have been at least a full point lower. Most Americans think Obama's jobs plans were fully tried and and failed to improve the economy which is further from the truth. Obama and democrats need to remind voters again and again about the many languishing jobs bills that the President sent and the Republican congress decided to sit on to hurt his standing with voters.
