Boston Globe To Team Romney: Sorry, No Dice
The Boston Globe will not be issuing a correction to its report on Mitt Romneys departure from Bain Capital, according to Politico. The Romney campaign formally demanded a retraction earlier today, maintaining Romney was CEO in name only, delegating all day-to-day operations to 26 managing directors at the firm from February 1999 on.
We received your request late this afternoon for a correction regarding this mornings Globe story, wrote Globe editor Martin Baron to Romney communication director Gail Gitcho. Having carefully reviewed that request, we see no basis for publishing a correction. The Globe story was entirely accurate.

(50,322 posts)Papers were filed with the SEC in his name after 1999 and if he wasn't there, that was fraudulent.

(7,672 posts)The entitlement these bastards feel is overwhelming.
You can have a title and be absent. If your presence is used for advertising--and so far it looks like it wasn't--then the advertising is fraudulent.
If you look at the SEC filing in 2000 and see that Romney's CEO and one of the managing directors and that's all you look at before investing, there's nothing more to say. You deserve to lose your money.

(20,226 posts)A few hours ago I was thinking, "we got him." But as we see with the Forbes article - strong elements in the media are already acting dismissively. I'm increasingly thinking that the insider political journalism culture is so closely wedded to Washington insider culture, 'Sure Romney misreported some of his SEC filling and sure he invested in companies that outsourced to China, But haven't we all?" I hope I'm wrong on this but I'm worried that these revelations may at best only contribute to our effort to define Mitt Romney as out of touch. But I'm afraid that the story itself may essentially be downplayed by the mainstream media as unimportant and largely dismissed as partisan attacks.

(95,262 posts)It is a hard thing to defend, since any defense must contain the charge for the defense to have a hope of making sense. Any attempt at defense will certainly remind people of the charge. A big money add defense therefore would likely do as much to spread the charge as refute it....
"I just want to hear him deny it!"

(57,936 posts)raised so far. Romney has, I have read, explained that he left quite a good number of vice-chairs or vice-presidents in charge. So, how did that go? If his vice-chairs and vice-presidents were able to run his company without Romney and all went well, then did the company really rely on Romney in the first place?
Was Romney really ever, after the first years, a truly active CEO, or was he just a figurehead. Was he really making the decisions?
How did the company manage to function with no owner and no CEO and no President? Who was in charge when Romney went to the Olympics and worked those 24-hour days (as claimed by some)?
Is Romney at all what he has claimed he is?
Also, what is Romney's tie to characters like Milken. Seems not only he but a lot of his supporters got their starts with Milken money (in part or in whole is unclear to me). What is the story on that? Was Romney just a front? If not, how did the company continue after his supposedly abrupt departure to go to the Olympics?
I suspect that this story will lead to a lot of questions.
